Anyone Installed or Used the Mountaineer Cargo Box?

Which cross bars go with the bigger Mountaineer Cargo Box?  Either set?  Is there a benefit to a particular set of cross bars?  Should I also go for the roof ribs for protection or are the cross bars sufficient?  Anyone have problems with this storage system?  Thanks in advance for your advice. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hi Laura,

I believe the Mountaineer cargo box will fit on any aftermarket or factory roof rack (square tube, oval). I don't own one myself, but I do have a factory Thule rack system which I purchased through the dealer. I use it to transport two 50lb. kayaks so it's sturdy foundation is key. I would'nt bother with the roof ribs since the cross bars are strong enough to support most loads. One convenient feature that I do see on some boxes is dual-side openings...something to keep in mind. One of the Japanese XC members has a Thule Vision box which can be viewed in this old post:

Thanks for the helpful info, Art!  I have basically decided to go with the Mountaineer.  The dealer has only one which he would like to unload, so he's giving it to me for his cost, which works out to be a &#36114 discount.  Since the movers left a fair bit of stuff, we are finding this cargo carrier pretty much essential.  When I have it all packed up I'll take a picture with my digital camera in case anyone is interested I'll have it on file, along with my thoughts on this accessory.  Thanks again for the information! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
