View Full Version : Miss my xc
http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/unhappy.gif Sold the XC and replaced it with a Passion Red/ Atacama V70R 6 speed.
As neat as the R is, and, of course, it will run rings around the XC, I fear that when the winter comes I'll be up the creek.
Even if I add snows I won't have that good 'ol ground clearance that I've been used to for the past 6 years. (@ XC's, '98 & '01)

The 'R' is certainly one impressive wagon JRL...I know that I'd definitely feel right at home in one. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif
At the same time, we love our XC and appreciate it's utilitarian aspects. The extra ponies would be nice to have on hand though. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Ever see yer white wonder tooling around since you sold it? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Post some pics of your 'R' whenever you get the chance. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

JRL:
First, I've followed your painful R purchase process and your recent disappointed in the R seats on Swedespeed and must say I'm truly sorry to have read it all.
To have sold your XC70 on the basis/promise of Volvo delivering your R ontime was a big risk considering the scarcity of R allotments etc. You've surely been a victim of bad luck -- what with the dash problems of your car at the dockside. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
I suspect you will hold onto your R at this time and make do so long as you can come to terms with your seat issue. Is this correct?
Unless you take your R on some pretty rough roads in winter time I don't see why, if you have decent winter tires, your R wagon can't manage. It has all the AWD virtues of the XC70 and some more. The R wagon would be subject to more body abuse I suppose because it lacks the sturdy side mouldings etc. Just take care and your R wagon should pull thru winter time hansomely IMO.
Hey, your R has Haldex whereas your previous XCs didn't -- now there's a bonus for you, so my man this should bring a smile to your face. Oh, and the summer months your R will shine and perform as the R has been designed to do.
Take heart and enjoy that R wagon of yours -- it really is a very good Volvo and blessed with marvelous Swedish safety and technology -- and I believe has no buzzing gear stick nor rattles from the rear suspension. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif
I've named my S60R "R-MATEY". http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

JRL I wish I had your problems... In fact I will swap you my 04 XC70 with only 85miles on it if you want! Anything to make a fellow Vovloer happy http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

jrl,
I imagine that the R will do just fine in winter and probably 95% as well as the xc. If you put a decent set of snows on it should go well. The XC lacks the ability to really push through heavy snow anyway, so I can't imagine the difference will be all that much with regard to ground clearance. Considering how often one has to drive in deep/heavy snow, the R will probably provide more year-round entertainment. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Please post a pic soon of youR wagon. I hope the seat situation works out so that you can comfortably use the R.

I'm absolutely certain that your V70R will perform just great even in the snow if you have decent winter tires.
Also go easy the pedal. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Infact my 855 Turbo without any AWD performed great during the winter, now I can't wait to see how my XC performs in the Scandinavian winter.
I'm also curious what's wrong with the seats.
