Had grocery tray replaced  with shallow tray---was there any problems to place full size tire--(waiting for car to arrive ) and what have others done with compact spare?  Thanks, merv

Merv,
We ordered our 03 through OSD and when we got to the factory for pick up ordered a full size spare and the shallow tray.  The full size spare fits in fine.  Volvo kept the compact spare (I didn't want it and never asked about keeping it).

merv:

I have shallow tray and there's absolutely no problem having the full size spare under it.

I kept the donut and the original two level plastic tray. The two level tray makes for a useful potting/sink tray in the green house. It could also be used to catch old oil for DIY oil changes http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. Of course, keeping the old two level tray also means converting back to the donut is a possibility.

Thanks to both for re-assurance--and Barry -still following your R car one Swede Speed--I've got my fingers crossed for you-also post pictures of it with new mud flaps (should make care look lowered--like fixing our cars in the 50's to look good)

OT but... Peter isn't lurking about http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

merv: Stay posted as I get my S60R back from shop today with mud flaps, Inclination sensor alarm fully operational, a few minor new car adjustments fixes, pesky WARNING labels removed from sun visors and THE trunk rattle fully resolved hopefully. If all this is accomplished successfully the my Customer Satisfaction rating for the S60R goes from 95% to 99.999%. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

FWIW, the shallow tray will fit, even with a larger 17", 225mm full size spare in the compartment below.  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I've always been impressed with my dealings with volvo mechanics and their service managers and am pleased to hear how seriously they took your problem.    merv

OT again http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif -- Yes the Volvo dealership and Jason (the mechanic) did a wonderful job and I'm extremely impressed with how they handled this one. They/Volvo get a 99.999% Customer Satisfaction score from me on the S60R at this time.

The mechanic was also pleased with himself as he had the opportunity to drive my R about in all 4C modes for around 25 miles. He was kind enough not to take the odometer over the 1000 mile mark.  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Here in Oz, shallow tray and full size spare (Tellus alloy) are standard fitment. Very hard to sell any car in Australia with a space saver spare let alone an off-roader.
