As I've ordered the VNS with my XC70 MY2003 I've been wondering about how the Nav Sys (DVD-based) is to be maintained over the years wrt DVD map data updates. I've written to NavTech several times inquiring about this and that. My last inquiry asked about DVD map data being available from other vendors besides NavTech. I post NavTech's Customer Service response to this for others.
"We are the only producers and distributors of map DVDs for your system.
And, as far as we know, we are the only map data suppliers as well.

Do others see more companies joining this market place over the next, say 5 years, or will NavTech enjoy a monopoly and have exclusive sales to Volvo owners with Navigation Systems.
I do see this GPS navigational technology becoming more and more widespread and it's cost will surely fall to make it affordable by many. This technology will be integrated with many other digital devices used in and around automobiles and more and more of the auto manufacturers will be capitalizing on it for maintaining/increasing their revenue streams IMO.
