I have a 2009 XC90 R-Design V8 and am looking for winter wheels and tires because I do not want to use the 20" wheels for snows. I found four ATLANTIS XC90 18" wheels, rim width 7", offset 49mm, and 5-108 BH. I have found very little info on the 20" wheels but the stock tires are 255/45 20". Is the hub diameter universal with the XC90s? Will the 18" wheels work? What tire size should I be looking at? I found Hakkapelitta 5 235/50 R18 and Dunlop Winter Sport M2 255/55R R18. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

255/55r18 is as sexy as you can go on stock 18 inch wheels.... stance should look almost the same from the front. I painted mine black and it looks pretty stealth..... some even like that look better than my summer 20 inch wheels... but I don't agree..... still looks nice tho!!!!!

With the 18" Atlantis wheels you have to put only 235/60 R18 tires. This is the original wheels and tires of the first XC90 V8 in Europe.Atlantis is only 7" and is impossible go with tire more large than 235.

I beg to differ my friend..... tirerack .com says 255/55r18 fit on rims ranging from 7'' to 9'' wide...

We run 255/55/18 Nitto Terra Grappler tires on our '06 XC90
Access to our home is via about 8 miles of dirt and gravel road and trail.
They work great.

BTW, in absolute crap conditions like ice on steep roads we run Auto Track self-tightening chains. They fit well in the wheel wells, clear all the tender bits, they're amazingly easy to install, and they grip in the worst imaginable condition.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Guys,

I have to buy new tires and would like a confirmation on If I can install 255/55R18 tires on my original OEM rims which I currently have 235/60R18? 50% say yes I can some others say there will be rubbing with the front fenders on full turn!

I have 2004 Volvo XC90 2.5T AWD. I would appreciated some confirmation as I don't want to order new tires just to find out they won't fit or could cause potential problems.

by the way, I am interested in Falken Ziex STZ04 tires.

Should not be an issue as Volvo lists 19" and 20" wheels as optional accessories for all XC90 years through 2014 with recommended tire width of 255. The profiles vary obviously from 50 to 45 for the 19" and 20" respectively. The main take away is that 255 is an acceptable width and will not result in any issues. In fact R-Design and Sport models have 255 tires standard. And mathematically 255/55x18 is exactly the same diameter as 255/50x19".
