Hey Guys,
Just a quick question. I was brouwsing through some of the Japanese XC websites and there was an article where some of the Japanese Xcer's used a product called PCS for their exterior plastic panels/cladding. I think I saw this article from Hiro's web sites. I have started to notice the the plastic cladding around the wheel arches especially are showing signs of white and fade. I live in Brisbane Australia and have called up many car detailing places and non of them seem to have heard of the product. DO any of you fellow Xcer's know where I can purchase this product. It would be nice to get a english version of this product as I cannot read Japanese. Also how much will the postage cost. Thanks for your help.
Eugene
Hi Eugene,
I'm already on it. I, err...I should say my better half, has already sent off an e-mail to the company that makes the product. Like you, I have also noticed a bit of fade on the rear bumper cladding.
I've only heard through Hiro that one application of the stuff lasts about a year. I'm not even sure if they'll ship overseas so I'll just have to wait until I hear back from them. Cost for the kit is 3,800 yen or about $60 Aussie/$50.00 Cdn. Apparently there is enough product in one kit to do a complete application. I'll let you know how things turn out.
Hope that helps. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey Art,
Thanks for the reply. Keep me posted on your findings. I also have a Volvo 850R, you think one bottle will do the XC and the plastic strips on the 850? Thanks again for your help.
Eugene
From what I understand Eugene, the kit contains only enough product to do one treatment on the XC's cladding. Judging by the size of the bottles, you really can't afford to lose a drop of that stuff. I take it that a little goes a long ways though. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Or go to bavarian auto sport and get their forever black. Yes, it is usually used on black plastic (hence the name) but, is for all plastic finishes. It will with some elbow grease remove the wax and grime and keep it looking great for some time. And 1 bottle will treat the car half a dozen time. Of, for about $15 U.S.
Another mail order that sells great products for detailing is Griots Garage. Same stuff, there name on the bottle. They also make the best car wash solution I have used to date. Smells great and suspends all the dirt and grime instead of grinding it into the paint.

I have read that Black Again is liked by a lot of people.
You can get it from iPd http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The main difference is that the forever black and back to black last for months, not just a few weks. Mothers is great for weekend cars or for those who detail their cars quite often.

Try Armor All, it lasts for about a day. I used to put it on my 240's. Thought it was great http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif

Hey Art,
I just want to give you a brief on the PCS product. I have emailed PCS afew weeks ago but I still have not received a reply. Because of this I have managed to get a Japanese friend of mine to purchase the product for me from Japan. From what he says, only Volvo dealers sell that product in Japan. Also I am having some problems getting him sending the product over to Australia because there are some poisen issues with quarantene. As a result they have got DHL to send me the product which is supposed to be working. It's cost me about $100AUD plus postage and handling. I'll keep you posted on what happens.

That's great to hear Eugene! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Sounds like you've got some solid contacts over there. Last I heard from PCS was that they've never dealt with overseas transactions. My wife's family is in Japan so I'll see how I can make out from this end. Thanks for the update and keep me posted. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey Art,
Bad news about the PCS product. My friend told me even DHL won't touch the product. I did a bit of research and the reason why air frieght companies won't send the product is because it is a dangerous goods issue. I think the product must have some hydro carbons in it. I have talked to a few companies and they have recommended me to find a shipping company to ship the product over. I also have to get some sort of dangerous goods declaration from PCS and have the product packaged in a certain way. Guess how much it would cost me to go through this process. Just to pass the Dangerous goods declaration I have to pay $150AUD, that does not include the postage of the product and the cost of the product itself. Looks like its going to take a while before I can get this PCS product http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif

Yikes Eugene! Didn't realize the hurdles one has to go through just for a couple of bottles of protectant. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
Not surprising though I guess when you figure how tight security is these days.
PCS is looking a little bit out of reach now considering that the DG declaration alone exceeds the cost of the product itself.
Good luck and let us know how you make out. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Is it worth the hassle? I mean, why not use one of the many good products listed above?
Or is the chase the thing?? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hey Art,
Just an undate. Although i have not been able to purchase the PCS product from Japan, I have discovered an alternative. I just bought a bottle of "Merguire's Gold Class Trim Detailer". ALthough it does not last as long as the PCs product, it still last for a few weeks. The results are very good. Keeps the plastic cladding looking new and gets rid og the white residue that we were talking about.
Hope it helps
Eugene
Hi Eugene,
I've also been using Maguire's for the past 6 months and it seems to be holding up quite well.
It's a shame about the PCS product. After hearing about the results experienced from the Japanese XCer's, it would have been nice to try it out on our own cars. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
