Edit: I took "Xenon" out of this post's title.

We just smashed a headlight while parking. :(

I am curious about upgrading to xenon (edit: this kit isn't xenon). Has anyone tried this Eurosport Tuning kit (http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EST02&Product_Code=VLA-160-401&Category_Code=VL-V70-ex)? Would you recommend it?

You may be curious about upgrading to Xenon lights - you can buy these lights and still be curious, because they are not xenons, they are halogen projectors.

I've had Saabs with both halogen and xenon projector - the halogens were far superior, and the xenon self-levelling was troublesome and expensive to repair.
I have a Honda with halogen projector - they are terrible.
I have an '07 XC70 with the adaptive xenon lights - they make great light but I dread the day I ever have to repair them.

Bottom line is I would never pay extra for xenons or projector lamps on any car I expected to keep past the warranty.

It took me a minute, but I now understand what you are saying vs. what the Eurosport site is saying.

At the bottom of the product page for the kit, there are some photos of a car with the projector kit installed. Above the photos it says "Images below are shown with HID kit installed." I was about to come in here and say "Hey, the Eurosport page says its an HID kit!" when it clicked: the photos on the page are indeed of the replacement projector headlight kit sold on that page, but with an HID kit swapped in for the halogen bulbs.

New halogen projector headlight assemblies + HID kit = too rich (and too much bother) for my blood.

You can buy HID kits for $40 ...... the headlights are another $400 shipped .

Cheaper then replacing one OEM headlight from the dealer.

Aside from the potential hassle of "headlight out" warning on the dash, my problem with the Eurosport kit + HID upgrade is that the new headlight assemblies aren't designed for HID.

You've had these exact headlight assemblies? Any quality issues? Do they actually improve headlamp performance (even without the HID upgrade)?
(I am giving them serious consideration.)

My mechanic installed the kit last week.

Unfortunately, when I went to pick up the car, neither the low beams nor the fog lights were working. (The low beams at least had been working earlier when my mech. tested them.) Both low beam bulbs were blown! I know a dirty bulb will burn out, but for both to go at the same time, I think there must have been some kind of power surge or short. Anyhow, at 17:30 on a Friday night, I had to make a Canadian Tire run while my mech. tested and tinkered.

We got the low beams working (and the LEDs)...but I know he disconnected one of the wires of the little wiring harness that comes with the headlights. The LEDs work, but they do not stay on for 10 seconds after the car is turned off (as described in the installation instructions).

The fog lights were getting power but no ground. The car goes back in tomorrow to get that sorted out.

I would love to upgrade to HID, but these electrical snags make me reluctant to do so.

Looks like the sockets are not sealed like they are on the stock ones. Could be problematic here in the Maritimes. I get condensation if my caps are not on just right due to the high humidity levels we have down here.

They look good though design-wise. Good luck with them

Cheers,

Bill

Sorry to see that.
Unfortunately, OEM is the only way to get proper quality projector headlights.... :(

Not that it's a fix for poor design, but does the condensation go away when the lights are on?

Try running a bead of silicone (and I do mean silicone, not ATV, not whutever) around the seam of the housing.

It's only the left side that has condensation. It doesn't go away when the lights are on.

Frank at Eurosport has been responsive thus far. He is awaiting an RMA from the manufacturer. I am a little cheesed about that, since I think Eurosport should be giving me a new headlight even if the manufacturer doesn't! But, I am going along with the process for now.

The new headlights and the old ones both have some sort of vent built into the cap behind one of the bulbs (high or low, I can't remember). On both, it looks like someone cut a 1" × 0.25" slot and then covered it with tape. I think the "tape" is supposed to act like Gore-Tex: keep water out, but let vapour pass through.

In any case, 24 hours before taking the photo above, I used a hair dryer to completely dry the headlight. We had wet weather the following day, and the condensation returned. Enough vapour (or liquid water) had entered the headlight within 24 hours to form a pool at the bottom of the assembly!

Wow with all three sets I have had and two of them on cars since they came out I have not had a single issue.

Frank at Eurosport is sending me a replacement. I had to pay for it. He will refund me when he receives the old headlight back from me.

The replacement arrived damaged!

Frank filed a claim with UPS and they picked it up from me yesterday.

What a saga!
