Another great upgrade, outside mirror with an integrated wide angle portion as a replacement for the regular outside mirror on the XC. A 10 minutes upgrade that works great.

Baz,

I see that Borton still has the offer on those wide-angled heated mirrors. Is removal of the stock mirror from it's housing a pretty easy procedure? Dealer here contracts the work out to a local glass company so they weren't obliged to offer me any specific details. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Did you replace the mirrors on both side of your car?

Several of my S80 buddies have bought this wide angle from Borton and most ended up asking their dealers to install it. The tricky part from what I recall was, as Art has alluded to, is the removal of the stock mirror. People have cracked the original too easily trying to pry it off. If I can find the links showing pics I'll provide them later.

It will be useful if baz957 can post back on this "ease of removal and install" question.

I was confused when viewing Borton's web site. It posts

"For: LH 2001-> XC70, 2003-> XC90 (Heated wide-angle glass) $49.95"

Does this mean it's available for ONLY XC70 MY2001? This doesn't make any sense as the XC70 is a MY2003 only. Or does it mean MY2001 V70 thru MY2003 XC70.

Can any one barr Borton clarify this?

Hi Art,
You only need to replace the left hand side. The swap is very easy and takes 10 min. When you purchase from Borton ask for the illustrated instructions. If you have difficulties to get them let me know and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks Atlas! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

My Canadian dealer here quoted me close to what Borton was offering. However, the cost of labor required to install the mirror is roughy $43.00 Cdn. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh2.gif

I'll be inquiring as to what installation instructions come with the mirror.

Art,
Save the 43CDN$. (get some Labatt Blue &#33http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
-Adjust the mirror to the most inner position.
-Insert your fingers in the horizontal plane from behind the glass and give it a gentle pull.
- Disconnect the two electrical wires.
- You'll see how the mirror is attached once it's out.
- The two springs are just to give tension to the motor movement.
- Reconnect the two wires and insert the inner portion of the rear glass first and shap the outer portion in with some support from behind, all done.

Did this on two cars, very simple.

Does the XC70 MY2003 require a different part compared to earlier models? There's some confusion in my mind looking at Borton's web site. I guess I can call them to discuss this -- is there someone at Borton's who it's best (more knowledgeable etc) to talk with -- if so what's the person's name?

I have the wide angle on my S80 and it provides a much improved view IMO compared to the stock one -- well worth the $40-$50.

Thanks.
