Normally I just use Volvo pads or once in a while Akebono pads, however, is anyone here using (or used) ceramic front pads?
I'm finally becoming real tired of the friggin brake dust all the time, plus now that I have a white car, it does not require washing on a every other day basis!

Akebono Ceramic on both P2s, and the 300E.

they're great - no noise, no dust, super long life and at least as good as OE for stopping power.

I've got 60K of experience on the XC alone...they really are great...

I agree completely with Astro about the Akebono pads. I use the Akebono Euro (http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.jsp?KEYWORD=brakes_Akebono_Euro_Ceramic_Pad s&CAWELAID=712253284&partnum=EUR592&GCID=C13674x012-brakes&cagpspn=pe&model=Euro+Ceramic+Pads&code=yes&make=Akebono).

Thanks
Hawk makes a "performance" ceramic pad.
I need to research both and then decide

Be careful of the Hawks. There are apparently a number of formulations in some pad configurations. I tried them on my R and I could normally never get enough heat into them to get them to really work well. When I did, they had great grip but that was driving a stretch of curvy road down in the Smokies. In any event, I was so put off by them, I replaced them after just a few 1000s of kms with Akebonos.

Cheer,

Bill

Hi Guys,
I need to get new front brake pads for my 2007 XC70 soon. Will ceramic Akebonos work well with stock rotors? What is the recommended Acebono model?

Jim,
What did you decide, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you,
Martin

Short answer: yes.

That's what is on my XC, Akebono Euro Ceramic and stock rotors. 60K on them so far, plenty of pad left...you're going to like these...

I went with the Akebono Euro and I'm pleased
They feel exactly like OEM and VERY little brake dust

flush brake fluid and add some SS brake lines and U will be even more pleased.

Thank you! I guess I will go with Akebonos Euro as well. Do you also use them on the rear or just front?

I went with all.
My pads weren't bad, in fact they were near new.
I was just sick and tired of the brake dust on a white car which doesn't need to washed quite as often as my other cars.

Thank you, Jim. My fronts are at 3mm and rears at 5mm so I will, just like you, go ahead and replace both with Akebonos.

Is Tire Rack the best place to purchase them?

I have no idea, I bought them from World Pac wholesale

I replaced the front pads and rotors with Akebono pads and Zimmerman rotors. Purchased from IPD I think. No issues to mention, I think there's no brake dust either but I haven't really noticed, my car is so filthy this summer.

Thank you, guys.

Did you notice a diminished braking power when the brake/pads are cold?

Not with the Akebono. Perhaps a bit better initial bite than OEM IMHO.

Bill
