Does the HU-803 have an easily accessible Audio-In connector? If so how does one access it?  THANKS.

For the record. My parts dept told me today that the HU-803 doesn't seem to have any audio-in jack in the back at all. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

This was with the parts person holding the actual radio and looking at the rear. All connectors were female and no wires hung out the rear. I asked how on earth do you figure out what wires to plugin from the car's wiring loom. He said all connection are unique and any non tech person could easily hook it up and no install instructions are needed because of this http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif  Volvo is just making it too easy for the techies but I bet they charge 1 hour for labor http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Have you looked at the soundfeeder.
I haven't tested it, but it looks ok.

I talked with my local Hi-Fi shop and they say they can install an Audiovox FM modulator behind dash and leave two RCA plugs dangling in an out-of-sight location to which I can connect my Apple iPod's audio out to.

This sounds like a reasonable soln -- comments ?

pierre: I'm also looking into the Soundfeeder -- thanks. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Barry, Two Things.  Wasn't there a thread just a few days ago that discussed a secret outlet on the back of the unit or was that just for power?

If you have an iPod, check this out.
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/

I just got the new iPod and these folks will ahve a new version for them in a month or two.  The one they sell today supports the first generation iPod.

joeboy01:

You're absolutely correct and I've been reviewing Griffin Technology's iTrip over past two days. The iTrip (the old one for the old iPod http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif) has been given very high marks by usrs and articles alike. Of course there are some -ives reported as well but the iTrip get more +ives than -ives from what I've read so far.

From the Griffin Tech's web site I understand mid June is the target date for releasing iTrip for the new iPod. This isn't too far into the future and thus will certainly be worth waiting for to get some reviews etc.

The "secret outlet" was posted by Hiro I believe and I went looking for it but came up NULL. I also recall it not being the audio input but something else. If you can find the post I'd appreciate you posting back its link. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I believe the iTrip doesn't require batteries which is a big PLUS -- but does plug into a 12v power outlet.

If you are also interested in iTrip lets keep notes and compare in this thread as we do our own research.  THANKS. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

joeboy01:

Here's another product TransPod FM for the iPod (http://www.devdepot.com/description.html?pcode=ANLTRANS) -- currently only for the old iPod but maybe they'll do one for the new iPod eventually.

The version of the iTrip I linked to does not require batteries or a 12 volt connection, it simply draws minimal power from the iPod itself. So however you choose to power the iPod in the car will power the iTrip.  It also has a wide range of frequency selection made from the iPod screen rather than a switch on the side of the unit which is usually limited to 4 frequencies.

Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone is using a new iPod in their XC?  Any success with the products described above or with Tunecast by Belkin?  The Tunecast seems fairly simple; here's a link:

Thanks,

I&#39;m still waiting for my pre-ordered iTrip for my new 3G iPod. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif It was advertised to be released July 21st and some rumors are circulating saying Apple, for some obscure reason, has asked Griffin Technology to delay its shipment. If this is true I&#39;m wondering what it is that Apple is saying&#33;

I&#39;m considering the XC 70 and the Acura MDX - amazes me that seemingly no luxury auto has an AUX input, yet in our &#39;98 VW the &#036;200 Blaupunkt I installed has one. :-)

Anyway, there is a SwedeSpeed thread worth following on the Blitzsafe line of AUX input adapters. I first read about these when I encountered the PhatBox last year.

http://www.phatnoise.com/products/digitalmediaplayers/index.php

Curiously, they do not list Volvo as a supported make; however, the chaps from this thread are apparently using a Volvo specific adapter (pre 2001 type) and an iPod.

http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=10640

The Blitzsafe website says,
&quot;ALL MODELS 2001-2003 VOL/AUX DMX V.2 AUX
AVAIL SOON&quot;

I have written them to ask if there is an expected date, and will report back if/when I hear from them. :-)

Cheers,
Timo

I just want to say, &quot; Thanks for all your work and investigation&#33;&quot; to Barry Sharp for helping those of us who have yet to get our XC70 but are in the info collection stage trying to decide what to get and what to avoid. You guys are more help than you&#39;ll ever know&#33;&#33; http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

FYI.

The GriffinTechnology iTrip is now shipping for the new Apple 3G iPod. When I get mine I&#39;ll post its performance with the HU-803 unit.

Sorry I&#39;ve been away and missed all of this.
It&#39;s too bad some 803 owner could not have checked in with :

If there is no button, switch, or menu softkey that allows you to select &quot;AUX INPUT&quot; , then the chances are almost astronomical against there being a connector to connect that unselectable signal to. &nbsp; http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

If yaknowwaddimean.

The iPod sounds like a great idea.

Hi:

Well I now have my iTrip for my iPod 3G and it works beautifully with the HU-803 in both my XC70 and S60R -- and the radio in my aging 745 GLE. I tune the radio to FM 87.9 which is a &#39;quiet&#39; channel in my local area just north of Seattle. I have this frequency memorized to location 20 in my FM mode so I can get to it quickly. The iTrip was very easy to setup and config for the 87.9.

No matter where I place the iTrip/iPod (FM frequency tramsmitter)combo in the car it plays thru the radio flawlessly. I can put in in my shirt pocket, in the front seat pouch, center console cubby hole, glove box or just laying on the seat -- it makes no difference -- it just plays great thru the radio.

For me I now have ALL my music with me/us no matter which car is selected.

The quality is not the same as audio CDs but it&#39;s pretty darn good and volume can be raised either via the iPod and/or the radios volume control -- AND NO WIRES.

Here a pic as I&#39;m about to post my news.

Hey, I&#39;m now really iTrip-ing. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Looks good Barry. &nbsp; So the FM modulator hooks up into the radio antenna, and accepts a transmitted signal from the iTrip? &nbsp; Is that how it works?

Tom[/QUOTE]<span id='postcolor'>
Yep -- that&#39;s how it works. The iPod with the iTrip plugged into the top of it (as shown in the pic) is all that&#39;s required. The iPod can be moved around the car to whereever and it simply transmits its music to the radio system over (in my case) 87.9.

I&#39;m quite pleased with the setup at this time and well worth the &#036;35 + S&amp;H.

I&#39;m now struggling with reconciling my music libraries on two Apple computers so that I can sync it all up on my iPod easily without issues. I will try to consolidate my music onto a single Apple machine so that it makes it easy to keep my iPod in sync. Using two machines causes music to be erased from the iPod. I can explain this further if you wish.

BTW -- Apple has released iTunes for Windows and this works with the new iPod.

fyi:
Creative now offers 60GB Nomad player for &#036;400 which is &#036;100 less than 40GB iPod.
The more space you have the better not just for music. You can store tons of audio books too.
