Has anyone figured out if the Polestar tune still limits torque in gears 1 and 2? The tune bumps the power beyond the transmission's capacity of 325 lb/ft which concerns me, yes I know its under warranty but I plan on keeping the car beyond 60K. Also, does the Polestar tune affect transmission programming so it will actually downshift 2 gears when I goose it? I'm a little envious of the 2012 transmission reprogramming and wish there was a way to upgrade that as well. I'm on the fence about this mod. It doesn't matter much how much power your car has if your transmission is asleep. Any thoughts?

I've had Polestar for about 2 weeks now. I don't notice any downshifting when I "goose it.". I would assume there is some transmission remapping as that is fairly common with flash upgrades, similar to what is done on my BMW with Dinan software.

You can learn more about the torque and hsp curves on this site: http://www.polestar.se/en-us/models/xc70-t6-awd-automatic-2012/. It looks as if the boost doesn't take effect until after 2k rpm of course that would happen before 3rd gear. Some sport tuned mapping starts the car in 2nd gear instead of 1st but I'm not sure if that is being done here with Polestar.

Sorry I can't answer most of what you asked but Polestar's website has a contact us link you could use to directly ask them. Would love to hear what you find out, if anything. Especially considering I am planning to keep our xc70 for a good 10 years.

As far as I know, the transmission programming is left alone. Throttle mapping and boost are modified, can't remember what else. I'm curious where you saw that the transmission has a maximum torque specification.

This is the tranny in our cars..... Aisin AWTF-80SC Its ultra compact and has a torque rating of 324.5 No coincidence the T6 is tuned to 325 lb-ft. I'm wondering how they can push the torque beyond that spec with the Polestar and expect us to be comfortable with that? Isn't there a maximum torque rating for a reason? This and the $1500 bill are the only reasons I haven't done the Polestar tune. :D

I think that's probably a modest number, as the same transmission was used in the 2006- S60/V70 R AWD and from what I've seen and what I can find with a quick search, the few people with ATs who have tuned those upwards of 330nm have not reported any transmission problems. Here's a relevant post on Swedespeed that might help put your mind at ease:

I owned a MY2007 S60 R with the 6-speed AT. I went to IPD in Portland and had the MTE ECU software installed + 3" DP + their Sports Exhaust. I had no issues with the AT after this upgrade. If the MTE is similar to the Polestar then the Polestar upgrade should not present issues for the XC70 T6 either.

Is there a question here?
First of all you're dealing with apples and oranges.
Different engines, different transmissions, completely different vehicles

and so what if something were to happen:eek:

It's all UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY! [thumbup]:p

I believe it's the same transmission and both the 2007 S60 R with the mods Barry is describing and 2012 T6 Polestar push the 330lb-ft torque limit Wikipedia says that transmission has.

The R's with 6 speed AT's were the TF80SC. The crucial part is torque during shifting. Torque reduction during shifts handled through software takes car of that. I would imagine the software is keyed to watch trans fluid temp gain and and to prevent the extra fun if the temp is too high.
