View Full Version : Driver's leg room

Any easy way to increase leg room for the driver? I'm just a little cramped (knees in the air) even with the seat all the way back and raised as far as possible in the front.

It's hard to make a spacer to move the tracks back as the front of the track is located by a bolt AND locating pin. I suspect the pin might be just for manufacturing ease though - if I can remove the pin then it would be easier to make spacers.

:p

The pins are likely there for ease of install, but could also be part of the anchoring system.

I would want to make sure any adapters are very strong steel and any bolts used are at the same or a greater grade than the originals.

Also, there may very likely be implications to the supplement restraint system performance in a crash if the seat is no longer in the "design area".

Try lowering the seat with it all the way back.

I've got the back as low as it will go, and the front as high as it will go, and the seat all the way back. Common problem for me. My old Saab 9-5 was just slightly less marginal.

Long shot here...I've heard many cars, BMWs in particular, with power seats have a removable clip installed in the seat track that stops the seat from going all the way back. Apparently this is done as a safety issue so that short people don't accidentally move themselves too far from the pedals using the power seat adjuster. The, taller, owner can remove the clip to get more travel from the power seat.

Seems marginally logical and worth a quick investigation.
