I have a 2004 Volvo xc70 Cross Country. Until approx. 3 weeks ago, all of the speakers worked perfectly then one day they began to go in and out and make popping and hissing noises. Now the only working speaker is the dash speaker. Any suggestions?

You have the Dolby 803?
Sound as if the AMP took a crap
The dash speaker works directly off the radio, not off the separate amp

Thanks for the reply. There is no amp in the car. I have already looked for it. According to the "owners manual" the amp should be beside the spare tire in the rear of the vehicle. It's not there. Any other suggestions?

No
It's under the passenger seat and your manual does not say in the trunk at all.
You have a Dolby 803 right?
If you had a 10 disc CD changer it would be where you said
SLOW DOWN, read more carefully

Thanks for the reply. I have a 4 disc cd player. How do you access the amp and can it be replaced/repaired.

You have to unbolt the front seat bolts, lift up the front of the seat (then prop it up) and get at it that way
If you raise the seat up all the way you should be able to see it

OK. I found the amp but, I found a much bigger problem. the entire rear passenger floor board and part of the front passenger floor board are saturated with water. When I took the amp out, water flowed from it. Where can the water be coming in?

Many places
Clogged sunroof drains, possible leaking heater core
Under the dash and down from a bad lower windshield seal

You need to find this and fix it before you replace the amp which (BTW) IS fried now.
(sorry)

Thanks for the info. I figured that the amp was fried. I took it apart and there was moisture and corrosion everywhere. Do you have any idea what a new amp will cost? I will look at the possible leak areas tomorrow.

Thanks. I'm going to try to hook everything back up even though I'm sure you're right about the amp being fried. Question? Does the amp have its own ground wire or does it ground to the vehicle body by the bolts?

OK. I have found out that the sunroof drains are open. I did un-bolt the front seat and was able to pull back some of the carpet. I found out that there is water in the bottom center channel that runs under both the front and rear floor boards. Could this be coming from a bad windshield seal on the passenger side?. There is no anti freeze smell, It's just clear water.

OK, I'm really stumped here. I have sealed all around the entire windshield and i still have a leak. Need to get the cowl off where the drains are but how do you remove the windshield wipers. I took the nuts off of the wipers, but they will not come off. Very frustrated with this.
