2000 XC 124K code PO422.
Just replaced both O2 sensors with new Bosch sensors.- code came back after 40 miles. :(
Before I will go with the owner of that car and buy A new Oem converter for $1080(cheapest that I was able to find so far) what else we can try to do that might help to clear the lovely code?
If someone knows where it is possible to find a cheaper new OEM converter-please tell me.( The owner is fanatic about buying OEM parts...)

Can also be a MAF
A heck of a lot cheaper
Buy a Bosch labled MAF (same as and made for Volvo) for about $140+ or so
It's a real goofy code and can be one of several things including the MAF sensor

BTW what brand 02 sensors did you buy and did you buy the two small 02 harnesses? (that also go bad)!
I sure hope you bought Volvo or Bosch

DO NOT GO BUY A NEW CAT!! I would also wait on the MAF until you have tried the below.......

Below is a link to a cheap and quick solution that you have nothing to lose by trying. It has worked for many people and many different vehicles.

There are additional links and pics. $15 fix...

I bought 2 new Bosch sensors. (Paid $304 for two) They were direct fit so i assume no problems suppose to be there. I already contacted Erie for a quote for a used one(just in case if my friend will change her mind to buy new) And also found an aftermarket for $420( i have the same one in my 98 and no problem with the codes for over a year now).
as for $15 repair-thanks for advice but we were able to pass the inspection so we have a whole year to figure this problem out. And the car is a keeper so she will not be OK with potential engine problems in the future.
A MAF sensor question. are the sensors on 2000 xc P1 the same as on 2001 P2? maybe i can just swap one from my car and try this option?
Thanks a lot for help!!!!

GEN1 not P1
The answer is possibly/probably yes

I used to have a P0422 code which got fixed with a new MAF. Mine is a 2000 V70 XC so that will answer your question ;)

Thanks for help. But could you please clarify for me what MAF sensor will work with 00 XC. I have 98xc and 01xc. so which one i should use? (98 is a single ignition coil application so i think 01 could work-just not sure.)

Try the 01 XC one, I think it use the same ME7 ECU as the 00. 98 use the ME4.4, not compatible.

The 01 should work (the 98 WILL NOT)
Remember for the first minute or so it may stumble and/or be very hard to start until it relearns/adapts, this takes a minute or so
