New XC90 '09 Owner - The Key Question...

Hello.

New member here.

I've just bought a used 2009 2.5T XC90 with 16k miles. Very pleased with it so far.

I am missing a second remote key fob.

I am tempted to order a key fob and key from a USA supplier of official volvo parts, and then have the key cut and the remote programmed by the dealer.

These parts:

(2004 & Newer XC90 Remote / Key Fob w/ Switchblade Key (BLANK) (31253386 & 8688799) )

Has anyone had much success with this? My local dealer in HK is looking for 500USD to do this, so I think it would be cheaper to source the part myself and have my local dealer do the programming.

Ordered mine from a sponsor of one of the other volvo forums. Shipped to my door cut for about $65. Just had to have the dealer program it another $140.

Key and programming are not cheap. I would think that a US dealer would ship it to you they will need your vin and proof of ownership.

I purchased a used key fob online to mount the key to. Remoted does not work, but key is an extra so not an issue for me.
