Well,

Sad to say, It has to go. I love the car to death but we need to pare down the expenses and this car at $700 is a luxuary we don't need right now. Since we are going independent with my insurance business we have a tremendous amount of overhead all of a sudden. It's either sell the new house for a less expensive one or sell the car. I love my home. So the car has to go!

Here's the details.

02" Java Metallic. Think Dark, Dark brown with a beautiful shine in the sun. A REALLY great combination to the brown trim. Sand leather. 12,600 miles to date. In service date the end of August 2002.

Options:
Metallic paint
Touring Package
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Integrated Booster Seats

Add ons done by me:
Front and rear mud flaps.
Tow package, Volvo factory, all wiring and adapters for U.S. 4 pin wiring
Window tint, 37% Just dark enough to look great, work & see.
Nokian WR tires approx 10K miles on them.
Factory Skid plate, REAL ONE, under engine.
Rear skid plate.
Sylvania super blues (real white headlights, not blue)

No dents, dings, marks, chips ect. Perfect! Only Mobil Delvac1 synthetic oil since 5K miles 5w40. All highway miles, had a 26 mile commute to work and was traveling back and forth to WI about 150 miles each way 2 times a week when my dad was sick.

I need to get $33,000 for the car. So if you know anyone that may be interested I will pay a finders fee if they buy. I can deliver the car anywhere in the U.S or Canada with a return air ticket to Chicago provided by the buyer.

Thanks for the bandwidth! I'll stay with the board as you are a great group and hope to join the fold sometime next year again.

Sorry to hear of this Jason. But it sounds like you are securing a better future for your family and that will lead to another XC. Or maybe something better! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happy.gif

Having gone through a major restructuring of ownership with my business (finally) last year, I have some idea of what you are commiting too. Best of luck to you and by all means stick around the board here!

Dang, sorry to hear that too Jason. Then again, building the business is definitely a more worthwhile investment than a car, even if it is a Cross Country http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Good luck with things and by all means stick around, been great to have you on board and I'm sure you'll be back in the saddle of an XC again soon. Well, maybe that's an interesting question... are you planning on getting an XC once the investment starts to become less of a burden? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Taylor.

Jason, say it isn't so! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I didn't know yours was a Java, that is just a beautiful color and they are not making them any more. And it looks really great with the brown cladding, as you say.

Will keep your deal in mind - please post back here if you sell it - and please do stick around - we need people here who know about cars, you know? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Of course I'm talking about Hiro, not you... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Jason:

I'll put the word about my neighbourhood for you and do hope you return with an '04 http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Had a fella (friend of my daughter) ask me about OSD yesterday so will mention your offer to him.

Does new car warranty transfer to a 2nd owner? If so, that would be a very good insurance for next buyer.

If this fella bites maybe you need a car with less expense -- I could let my 1986 Volvo 745 Turbo diesel (smokes when cold) give you a ride back to Chicago -- just kidding http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Look after yourself and family.

So sorry to hear about your XC Jason. We all know how much you loved and babied that car. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I guess there are always tough decisions to be made when it comes to starting a new business. Let us know if you decide to step into a new XC when the time is right. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well thanks guys....sniff...

I am looking for an older Volvo wagon, preferably an 850 or a 7 series. I still need to haul the dog around!

I do plan on getting a new one, soon enough. I just don't want to have a $10K a month debt load to break even.... That's a LOT of insurance! Come on big commercial and life cases! We have managed to shave off a couple of grand already with some creative refinancing and cutting back on the frivelous spending. It is truly amazing the amount of cash you can spend when you have it.....And the amount of cash you can save when you look into your spending habits.

That said, i would drive an old Volvo diesel. No question! And I'll stick around for tech advice if you guys need it. Who knows, maybe they will make the R version of the XC for 04'. Now that would be a car to own!

I am really sorry to hear about your situation and the painful decision you have to make about your car. I hope your business picks up eventually. Have you thought about trading in your XC70 at the dealer for a lease vehicle? Considering how you have your own business, you can deduct the monthly payments from your taxes? Just a thought...

Thanks, actually business is quite brisk. We just left a captive agency situation, meaning the company I workeed for keeps all the business i wrote over the last 6 years. That means I don't have the base residual incone to live off of that I had with the other agency. Actually this is how most agents work. There are advantages to this, but you are limited in the products you can sell and to the rates of a particular carrier. Leasing is an option, but the mileage I drive is excessive and always a better write off. ( 40K miles + a year )I just want out of the high payment. I prefer to not be strapped to it, I can swing it, I just prefer to be able to save 20% of my income just in case I need it for something. And with rent, new computers, employees, benefits, taxes ect....it all adds up. As many of you know. a year without an $8500 note is a lot of cash. Especially when you are mechanically incline and can buy and repair a $3000-$5000 car then turn around and off it for what you paid for it.

way of topic here....sorry, just rambling.....

As all the others I’ am really sorry that you have to sell the car. But what counts is that you and your family are well and a car is just a car (counts even for XC’s). I really hope that things pick up for you so we all can have you back with a new XC ASAP. Anyhow I’ am really happy that you decided to stay and participate in the forum.

Cheers

Jason -
It was an XC in your colour at last year's Auto Show that prompted my husband to declare that that would be our next car. It was truly beautiful in Java with that glow you mention; you should have many takers since the colour is no longer available. (We 'settled' for Ash Gold in our '03 - and love it anyway).

From what you told us of your Dad this move of yours to your own business would probably have made him very happy. Good luck to you and I hope to be reading many more of your thoughtful posts.

still dieseling along. We also have another vehicle to sell if anybody is interested. My late fathers 2001 jeep cherokee classic sport. gray, gray cloth, 4x4, alloys, tow, tints, ect. 22K miles. $15,300 owns it. Or for $200 can assume a $350 a month lease for 23 more payments through U.S. Bank.
Thanks again guys.

Taylor(Coastal) - perhaps the time has come to add a "Classifieds" section to the forum? Great place for parts and cars. That way more folks would see the stuff for sale...

Jason,

Can't imagine where Hiro's going to ride once the XC and Jeep are history. Will we be seeing your username change to Hiro's TDI? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I take it that it's safe to say you'll be retaining the current moniker for future needs. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Glad to know your still gonna be stickin' around! Wouldn't be the same without ya. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

LOL! Hiro TDI......Doesn't roll off the tounge too easily. He was cruising around in it (the TDI) today. He takes up the WHOLE back seat now. 9 months yesterday and 96 lbs! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
He really does not like that car unless he can hang his head out the window. It rides WAY firmer than the Volvo and we had an emergency panic stop when he was a pup and he got thrown around hard. Dogs never forget....remember that next time your mad at him.... The Jeep was interesting, he kept climbing over the seats because there was no head rests in the back. I'm currently looking for an old Brick. (740 turbo wagon, 5 speed preferably) to fit the bill for the next year or so.

Dito on the previous sentiment.
What kind of insurance do you sell? You never know, you might be able to boost your clientele right here on this forum.

The best to you and the family, including that big dog. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
