My good Swedish friend gave me one of these to test / diagnose a few items with the XC. Needless to say, I was blown away at the price/functions of this device.

Buy one of these:
$~20
http://www.prlog.org/11421197-soliport-elm-327-bluetooth-obdii-obd2-scanner.jpg
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ELM327-OBDII-OBD2-V1-4-Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Interface-/110631734009?_trksid=p3907.m8&_trkparms=algo%3DMW%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D12%26po%3D LCA%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4439510180568201783#ht_438 0wt_977

And this app with any Android phone:
Torque

= Free OBD diagnostic + gauge interface

What it can do:
* Read diagnostic trouble codes, both generic and manufacturer-specific, and display their meaning (over 3000 generic code definitions in the database).
* Clear trouble codes and turn off the MIL ("Check Engine" light).
* Display current sensor data, including:
* Engine RPM
* Calculated Load Value
* Coolant Temperature
* Fuel System Status
* Vehicle Speed
* Short Term Fuel Trim
* Long Term Fuel Trim
* Intake Manifold Pressure
* Timing Advance
* Intake Air Temperature
* Air Flow Rate
* Absolute Throttle Position
* Oxygen sensor voltages/associated short term fuel trims
* Fuel System status
* Fuel Pressure
This Scanner will read/clear codes from EOBD/OBD2 diagnostics systems (this covers engine, power train and emissions faults). It will not read/clear codes from other systems, e.g. SRS, ABS or Suspension systems)

I hooked one up to my XC and ran it with my friends Android phone (Samsung Galaxy) and I was testing boost pressure, intake temps etc.
Absolutely AWESOME device. It plugs into the OB2 port and syncs with your smartphone via bluetooth. Very simple.

Only thing - I does NOT work with an iphone :(

Unbeleivable...It won't be long before we are driving our cars from the touch screen:eek: I have the Samsung Galaxy S, But I am not familiar with my Bluetooth function. Do I have to download the App., or does this tool automatically hook up to the Bluetooth function? And then do you have a full settings index once your hooked up with a user friendly system? Thanks for any info Ocean Racer.

You need to:
1. grab the device.
2. download the app.
3. plug it into the OBD2 port and sync via Bluetooth with smartfone.
4. select the gauges you want to view.
5. WINNING [thumbup]

This is also available from Amazon for around $20. However, this device has a lot of negative reviews on Amazon. I wouldn't buy it from ebay because you may have a hard time to return it if there is a problem.

Interesting coincidence, since I just bought the PLX Kiwi Bluetooth adapter (http://www.plxkiwi.com/kiwibluetooth/) ($99.99 from Amazon) and Torque ($4.95) for my Android phone last week!

Of course the Kiwi costs much more than the Chinese eBay offerings, but I decided I preferred confidence that I'd have a working adapter when I really need one.

Other advantages are that the Kiwi has an on/off switch so you can leave it connected without draining the battery, and also a long cable between the plug and adapter, so you don't have the big dongle sticking out of the OBD port.

It could be better though. The cable outlet from the connector could be at 90° to make it even less obtrusive, and the cable could be much thinner and more flexible. Also the cable is probably too long for 99% of applications and the excess has to be stuffed somewhere.

Although not blue tooth I have a ultra gauge EM which i have also put in my 2003 land rover discovery. It moniters and shows 48 different paramiters and acts as a code scanner and will store and clear them It even lets you know if there are any impending codes before they become a problem. I have had no issues with it in the wifes 2002 V70XC and whilst in the land rover has let me know twice of impending problems, one with the transmition XYZ switchand one with the crank sensor and was able to replace them before it became a problem. It sits on the window in its own holder and is constantly pluged in to the OBD2 port.
The only thing it will not clear or read is ABS faults, aside from this we are very pleased with it.
The only down side with it in the Disco is it shows MPG to SWMBO:rolleyes:

One thing I have neglected to mention is that this device does not 'tune' your car so to speak - it just displays the readings received by the sensors etc.
But it does read and clear error codes so it still has my tick of approval

I bought a likely identical unit here:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/obdii-bluetooth-car-diagnostic-cable-black-blue-orange-dc-12v-42825

and have been pretty pleased with it. I'm also using it with Torque on my Android phone.

I notice you mentioned you were testing boost pressure with it -- I remember not being able to get any boost pressure measurement to work with torque... I figured the way the XC was reporting boost was incompatible with how torque was trying to read it. Was torque able to read your boost pressure through the OBDII port?

I had no problems getting the boost readings. It worked fine for me.
I had 2 friendly Swedish Volvo tuners with me at the time and they couldn't work out how it attained the readings but we compared it to a boost gauge and it was accurate :)
It must work on sensors, MAF readings combined etc..?

I've got the garmin Eco-route. It also displays gauges and lets me clear any error codes. I can use my Android or my Garmin GPS to view the gauges. I do a lot of driving and it's been really handy. Sorry, I know I'm new here and when I re-read this it really sounds like Spam...

No stupidloose I have one too - all you need do is turn on the blutooth function from the settings and make it discoverable - do the same with your PC/laptop. It works fine without using Samusung's Kies software which I find to be buggy and very slow to install drivers successfully. Good luck!
