Hello all,

After my second week with the car, i started to re-read the owners manual as i had more time to notice, experience and play with things. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

In the 2002 North American english version of the manual, on page 58, they explain how to use the "Waste bin / Bottle holder". It is written option in brackets, but i thought that i had it as standard in the XC. So after playing with that #### plastic thing for 20 minutes with the manual next to me, and feeling like a fool for not being able to open such a simple thing, i finally decided to give my dealer a phone call to see if there was a trick before i broke everything.

Guess what... no wonder i could not open the plastic "Waste bin / Bottel holder"... i don't have it! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
It is indeed an option for the 2002 XC (so i was told). Now i don't much care for the garbage bin, but the Bottle holder is a neet feature and one i would use *all* the time since i always carry a "Nalgene" water bottle everywhere i go. (at the moment i haven't found a place to put the darn thing... it rolls all over the place)

I asked the dealer to check the price and order one. He came back to me saying that it was unavailable in Canada!?
Is this true? Does any one have that thing? If yes, where are you from? Can i order one from else where?..... i want my Bottle holder! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Thanks for helping me in this most vital affair http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

PS Funny thing is... on the carpet where the bottle would rest, i have the two small "bumps" that would hold it in place... go figure

Happy, safe and bottle-well-held driving

Hi Kny,

The rear waste bin/bottle holder came standard on my '01 XC (Alberta) , however I can't say that I've really found a use for it yet.

If your dealer says it's N/A in Canada, he maybe right. Considering it's construction, I'm not sure how much use you'd get out of it before it broke off. It also seems like it would be a better fit for taller 2L bottles.
My issue is with the lack of standard cupholders for the rear passengers, but that's another kettle of fish. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hi,

I can't speak for certain about the Canadian market, but in the US for the 2001 model year the rear bottle / waste bin holder was standard on the V70 wagons. For some reason, that I don't understand in the 2002 V70 and Cross Country wagons it is only included as part of the Versatility Package (third seat, booster seats - I think this package is called the Family Package in Canada).

To me this should have remained standard on all the V70 wagons. I get many smiles from little kids when I show it to them and tell them that sitting in the back seat they would have a bigger cup holder than their Mom or Dad! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif When Mom and Dad look at me with a look of envy I also tell them that it's other use is as a trash bag holder. Unfortunately now, I must check and see if the wagon I am showing to a customer has the Versatility Package before I talk about this feature.

In March I wrote a post about how I converted the standard console surround into a bottle/waste bin (not bag) holder very easily.

Using the forum search button at the top of your screen, search for El Cheapo Bottle/Bin Holder

If necessary I can update that post with appropriate photos to make the process clearer.

Ron.... you're the best!  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Presto... one bottle holder!

Worked fine, no problems. 10 mins later i had a fully funtionnal bottle holder.

As for the little space where the ash tray would be... second set of house key?

Thanks again
