Last week the Urgent Electrical Service Required message appeared on our 2006 XC70 with approx. 95K miles. Took it in to a local independent shop thinking either battery or alternator. Shop has tried 3 alternators and new battery yet message comes back and I'm told by the shop that even with the new alternators the car is only putting out 13.x volts. They are supposed to be trying another alternator today.

Anyone have any other suggestions on what may be causing this?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Has any of these alledged "shops" bothered to test both battery CABLES?
Known issue on early Volvos and not as much on P2 cars but that does not mean you don't have one.
They need to test the output of the alternator at the alternator then at the CABLE end.

Also it's time for the car to go to Volvo and let them use their diagnostics which WILL pinpoint the issue

Did you have him check for any DT codes? Check the bulletin below for more details of the charging issue relating to pre-wired BLIS wiring.

I alerted them of this bulletin, they did check for codes and found a code for the park assist.

Thanks for the responses.
