I purcahsed new tires an an alignment. The alignment report given me by Goodyear dealer states the car year as 1998 - 2000 model XC70. But my car is a 2006 XC70. Apparently a mechanic punched the wrong model year into the alignment appparatus. Does anyone know if the actual alignment is incorrect because of the error or are the alignment values the same for the 2006 year as for the 1998 - 2000 years, and so is it OK to accept the alignment based on the wrong model year?

There are alignment specification differences between your car and the 1998 - 2000 year models. Whether the differences are material to what was done to your car would require reference to the final readings on your car. Does the alignment report include the actual values?

Here are some specifications that I found but I can NOT vouch for their accuracy (couldn't find anything purporting to state 2006 specs but I would guess they are probably the same as 05):

Camber Front 2000 0 +/- 1.0
Camber Front 2005 -0.3 +/- 1.0
Castor Front 2000 3.35 +/- 1.0
Castor Front 2005 5 +/- 1.0
Toe in Front 2000 .33 +/-0.1
Toe-in Front 2005 .2 +/- 0.1
Toe-in Rear 2000 0.1 +/-0.2
Toe-in Rear 2005 0.2 +/- 0.2

Bill,
Thank you for the information. I had the Goodyear dealer redo the alignment. The new report states the rear camber is out of adjustment and the dealer said Volvo doesn't provide a way to adjust rear camber and it can only be adjusted at a body shop by bending the frame. Do you know if that is correct or can rear camber on a 2006 XC70 be adjusted?

That is correct
Exactly what is your rear camber now?
If it's not more than -1.2 you're fine. If it's more, rotate the tires front to rear more often as the rears will wear the inside of the tread a bit too much and if not rotated you will have premature wear

The left rear camber is -1.1. The right rear camber is -1.2. The correct range given on the alignment report is -0.7 to 1.3. Thank you for your help.

I wouldn't worry about that. I run about -1.1 in the rear with my Eibach springs dropping the ride height. My tire wear is excellent but I do rotate my tires every 10K kms.

Cheers,

Bill
