what are my options?
I have been told only fix is from dealership...
What say you. Any after market that would be a less costly choice?

ECU is toast?
That's a pretty broad statement
You need to post what they EXACTLY said and there are no aftermarket ECUs

What's "toast" about it?
The programming?
Just have the dealer reflash it, takes about 10 minutes
If it's actually broken in some way you have to buy a new one and have it loaded by Volvo
($1300 or so) and you can't install a used one, doesn't work

Code for the injector (Cylinder 1)keeps flashing and very rough running.
Switched injector one for three and Cylinder 1 kept throwing codes right away.
So not the injector and they traced it back to the ECU. It might need to be re flashed or replaced.

So I moved from Florida to Michigan last weekend.
Towed the Volvo in an auto trailer.
Got to Michigan and started my car and moved it off the trailer. My Climate control was gone and I bought a used one from Erie. Replaced the Climate control and started the car.
I have not had any codes but the SRS code come up.
The car runs like new. No problems or codes showing up.
What gives?
And what is the STC light on my new Climate Control button?

STC button is only available on S60/V70. Your CCM was probably from one of those cars.

Probably a bad coil and also the humidity of Florida helped the cause...

Well car is running like $h!^. Back to square one. I was going to buy a new coil pack for cylinder one and see if the change stops the problem. I have an appointment with a Indy shop begging of next week.
If the coil pack replacement works I will replace all 4 others also.
Anyone have some advice for the coil packs?

Replace the coil pack one with one from another cylinder and see if the situation and codes changes... this way you will now if the coil pack 1 is faulty or not....

I don't have the computer do to that here in Michigan. Will Auto zone be able to read volvo's ? If not I think I am better off just replaceing one and see if the problem goes away and then replace all.

So I switched one and three cylinders on the coils and no lights or codes pop up. Seems to be running well with a quick clip around the sub. I will try more when going out to lunch. Can oil leaking our of the cap cause this? Noticed a little oil on the top.

Get a new cap seal but you need to do a PCV (Breather box) pressure test.
If it's clogged (which most get over 100K miles, you need a complete breather system replacement.
Eventually oil will start pouring out all the engine seals and instead of spending a few hundred dollars for the breather replacement you may be looking at a couple of thousand dollars to fix everything!

OK switched the coils and the check engine light went away. Drove for a few miles and it was still off. Car was still "missing"...
Finally the light came on and it was back to "high pulse in cylinder 1 injector".
I am at a loss.
It will go to the indy mechanic Tuesday.

I will find out today what they say and asked them to check the Breather box.

I've been following this as you have attempted to find a fix; but, and perhaps I missed it, have you checked the condition of the wiring harness to each of the coils? Known to degrade over time plus with you changing out coils, you would have had to move the harness and thus perhaps aggravated a chafed wire within the harness? Just a thought.

Good luck,

Bill

The fault code is still the injector and not the coil... It is a moving ghost....
Injector seems to be fine...

Yep it is the ECU.

Anyone have any opinions? Any after market? Any savings? anywhere?

Chilled and JRL...

What are the chances that it just needs to be reprogrammed? Noticing that it is semi intermittent. Happens 70% of the time. Might have to do with temp? I will take it in to the dealer in a week or so. Need to get about $1600 first.

Dealer should try that first regardless .
If that doesnt work you need a new ECU.

I just had to get mine replaced in the 01 S60T5M since it fried it self and was shorting out coilpacks.

At what cost?
Just want to make sure I know what is coming...
