I have just ordered an MY12 XC60 D5. This is largely standard vehicle, with the MY12 specification saying that the car will be fitted with 235 60 V 17 tyres. The brouchure also says that 'normal' snow chains cant be fitted. As there is only just enough room to get your fingers between the inner edge of the tyre and the suspension strut I can understand this. The brouchure says that single sided snow chains are the only ones supported, and these are quite expensive (c£300). Does anyone have nay experience of these.
I am also thinking of fitting snow tyres in winter, and to save effort am thinking of buying a second set of wheels for these. However buying wheels seems very complex. I understand that the XC60 needs a PCD of 5 x 108, but information on the offset and bore seem a little more difficult to get.
I get two different figures for the bore (size of the hole in the centre of the wheel) 63.3 from http://www.wheelfitment.eu/steekmaat.php?merk=Volvo&type=XC60%20(2008%20-%20)&merk2=Volvo and 67.1 http://www.alloywheels.com/fitment.asp?Make=Volvo. Can anyone confirm what is the right size.
Also I dont understand why the offset is a single figure with http://www.alloywheels.com/fitment.asp?Make=Volvo suggesting that the offset can be between 35 and 50. Surely this will affect the inner side clearance and possibly the tracking / suspension.
Finally has anyone had any experience of using wheels with a larger bore and 'shims' to pad this out?
