Hey, whats up? Cool to see a forum just for XC's.

I had asked this question a long time ago on Swede.. and received little response; maybe I am crazy, but I think a front grill guard would look cool on my XC(and my wife could run things over and not scratch up the bumper), anyone know of any made after market?

heya harden.. welcome to v70xc.com!

You mean something like this?
http://www.ustruckaccessorieswhse.com/wes-pbar1.gif

Personally, I think might look better without the rings around the headlights... ie just the center section.
As far as one purpose built for the XC, I'm not too sure... you may want to ask the guys over at Grizzly Products (http://www.grizzlyproducts.com) to see whether they make one or can build a custom for you. Either way though, it'd cost an arm and a leg http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Harden,

Let us know if you find one. I'd be interested in something to mount some rally lights to. The Volvo part that extends from behind the front license plate for aux lights isn't available in N. America.

Thanks,

Coastal-

Yeah, exactly that. I think that Subaru offers somthing similar on one of their cars. I'm going to look into who might make that one, I'll let you know.

Hey Guys,
Love the idea of a grill guard. It would give the XC an even more aggressive looking attitude, besides having the only one equipped with it in the neighborhood! Hear any more news regarding the rear skid plate?

Art,

I've got my local parts department doing research on it (the rear skid plate, that is). Keep fingers crossed. I think the answer is going to come from looking at is as a part for the Ocean Race Edition since that model seems to have it. That's the only place I've seen it besides the funky pic that Coastal posted. BTW, I found that same pic on my dealer's site so I told the parts guy to look there for an example of what I'm looking for.

Adam,

Sounds like you've got things well under control. Any guess at how much this rear accessory would cost? Sure would add a distinctive look to the XC! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

fyi:

my wife just called to say she just saw a 2001 XC with a push bar like the one we were talking about.
She said it looked awesome.

Sounds like it lives nearby us, so I'll keep my eyes open and hopefully I'll have my digital camera in hand when it crosses my path. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

coastal,

Thanks for posting. Yeah, it does look like one bad mutha of an ambulance. That's a little more extreme than what I had in mind.

I wonder what they can really see with that second set of side-view mirrors.

Hmm...I was wondering about those also. Maybe they're some form of lights or signal indicators similar to the ones mounted on the top of the grill guard. BTW, does anyone know the English translation for Utryckning?

wow, very cool, any ideas on where we might find a supplier? I don't know how crazy I would be about drilling through the front of the bumper.

Hi!

Should be no problem for some swedish guys to contact the police or some red cross specialists over there to get an address of an manufacturer. I checked the swedish police page, but no contacts in english.

Who can help ?

Or, maybe some swede would like to sacrifice himself for the good of the V70XC website and run out in front of an ambulance and see if he could get the manufacturers name right before.... well you get the idea.

Hi everybody

You can get the bar from this company (In Sweden)
Mooser Metall AB phone +46 (0)8-570 260 55
It is made of steel and powdercoated black but slightly different from the one on the policecar
Good stuff is that no drilling is required it mounted with the fender? bolts and some rubber expanders and there are mounts for two extra lights on it.

I like the idea of a grill guard and it looks pretty good, but what about a safari rack on top? Pros/Cons? Does anyone have photos of a XC with a safari rack up top (with or without a grill guard) that is a street vehicle? Thanks.

Todd,

Could'nt find any pics portraying the XC with a safari roof rack. I've seen the basket type accessory that Thule makes, but it's not very butch. Could this be the type of rack you were referring to? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Art, that is basically what I was thinking of, but not necessarily with all of the accessories for offroading http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
As a former Jeep owner, I was just curious to see how far people have taken the "off-road" look when it comes to the XC. With two kids, a cargo box on top of my XC is about as rugged as the look is going to get for awhile. Thanks for the pic.

This is an old post, but I saw this grill guard/ rack and thought I'd pass it along. I don't see much utility in it other than the occasional need to maybe tie an oversize roof rack load to it. I see that someone (Art is it?) is tieing his kayaks to the front. Doesn't look to bad either.

Thanks everyone. this is a fantastic site. I appreciate everyone's effort.

Greetings and Salutations Jorge! Welcome aboard! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I tend to agree with you. The complete X-rack system including the side rails is a bit over the edge, unless of course your trying to achieve a certain look. I have to admit that the front grill guard would be handy to have considering the lack of tie down points on the XC.

I'll find the link, but there is a company that makes a munual up down snow PLOW for the XC. It also mounts on the Lexus RX300 the Ford Escape and a host os other small sport utes. It's real cool, lexan material, folds in half top to bottom so you get good highway airflow for the radiator. I saw on on a RX300. Overboard? Totally, would I do it? No way! I'd buy an old Cheby truck if I needed a plow. I guess it would be great for the person with a real long country driveway.

If you want to turn heads with you XC, put a snow plow on it, guaranteed to turn heads. Why would anyone put a snowplow on a cross country? Nevertheless, Hiro, if you find the picture, please post it, so I can have a good laugh.

That's 45 series rubber mounted on 8 x 19 alloys! I'm not quite sure what the owner of this XC had in mind. I guess the versatility of the XC truly lives up to its name. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

A couple of years ago before the Volvo 2001 XC intro in Vermont, I talked to the folks at Sterling Equipment in Umatilla, FL. At the time there was some interest from Volvo for an accessory guard. They said that they could design a guard for the XC, but would require a car for about a week. Typically their guards have a number of options - upper overrider bar, headlight guards, wires in the headlight guards (illegal in some areas), winch mount, front receiver, etc. Theirs are steel, powder coated. I have one on my Chinook R/V (Ford E-350 chassis w/4wd) and it works great - good for keeping the moose/deer away from the billet grill in Maine.

Anyone interested in doing a bulk shipment of the SCT grill gaurds? Not sure exactly how to work out the 'trust,' factor. Could save on shipping if 'we,' ordered multiples. Maybe do purchase only option on eBay ensure some sort of reliability or assurance that the stuff will get ordered and paid for? I'm willing to front the bill if you're interested, can do PayPal???Again, just a thought.... I have friend that speaks Swedish.

I found someone to make one for me- we are omiting the rings around the headlamps and including to extra lights wired to a separate switch. Once it is done I will post pictures.

I don't know if anyone else ever finally acquired a brush bar/grille guard for their -2000 V70XC. I did, and it looked like the attached, except in black/powder-coated and without the extra lights. It's produced in Sweden. I had a friend bring it over. Unfortunately, a few months later it was involved in an accident and needs to be replaced.

The problem is shipping cost. However, I have to do what I have to do.

The installation was straightforward and very solid. The only complication was that the lower bumper grille inserts (grey) needed to be trimmed to allow the bars to pass through to mount to the subframe. However, the inserts do pop in/pop out. and I did a passable job cutting them with a coping saw and reinserting them. Just wish I'd made a template.

I have a special use for the bar (besides exclusive bragging rights). The same flat plates on which the accessory lights are mounted also worked well as a landing/attachment for a set of uprights and cross-tee. The tee crosses at roof rack height, and serves as an extension to support the front end of hang gliders I carry on top of the car.

So I have one on order and am working out the shipping details. Anyone who wants to know more, feel free to write back.

Volvo OEM auxillary lights...European Only. I heard it comes with OEM switches so it looks integrated with your car's interior.

Quite right Steve. It appears that Daniel is the only member that has the O.E.M. aux. driving lights installed on his XC.
