Hello,
Big Brother caught my wife for speeding twice in a month http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif
Since this was still with my 940 (130HP) I hate to think what will happen once she drives the 2.5T XC70 http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Does anyone know of the existance of an add-on device that gives a visible and/or audible warning when the car exceeds a preset speed limit?
Thanks,
Willy

Well she could use the cruise control. The old BMW's have a chime and a flashing light on the dash that you can set a a predetermined speed. You can buy a govener to limit the top speed.

Sorry Hiro, no cruise control available on the 940 (and not even on my new XC70, I specifically choose to have no cruise control).

How about a little piece of wood underneath the accelerator!

Purchase a Valentine 1 Unit and set to 'All Modes'. The warnings will stop the tickets. Each succeeding Volvo we have purchased has lessened the preception of speed. Your XC at 90mph will feel like your 940 at 70mph. In a 35 zone, you are crawling. -Dick

Thanks for the tips, I didn't know that about gps.
The wooden block would certainly be effective but not suble enough I'm afraid http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
It is indeed so that the perception of speed in a modern car is much lower than it used to be. Perhaps that makes us go faster, undoing the surplus in safety our modern cars have!
I read an article about the new Rolls Royce Phantom (please forgive me) where the designers said they allowed the car to lean over in curves despite the sophisticated active suspension. One of the reasons would be that RR wants to give the driver some info about speed (the other reason was that it feels strange to be pushed to the side of your seat by centrifugal force while everything else stays perfectly level).

Willy,
a sure sign of the times--in the old days speed information was always provided by one's chauffeur http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
