Hey All,

This winter I started getting a loud squeel from the engine compartment when ever driving through a large rain puddle. It seems like a belt slipping but it has never occurred before and I have all new belts.

Any idea? Am I overlooking something simple?

Thanks

Sounds like another case of the exhaust rubbing against the prop shaft. In certain conditions ie rain/slush the exhaust will change shape and come in contact with the shaft.

A new belt can still slip when wet if the belt tensioner is old and hasn't been replaced.

Not from your engine compartment, it's called RAIN SQUEAL, do a search

So I recently discovered the rain squeal problem for my car as well. While I've seen a number of posts about how to fix it, my question is, does it need to be fixed? Is there any risk of doing nothing?

I've owned the car for about two seasons now and last weekend was the first time I've heard the noise. I'm not sure the cost of paying volvo to repair the rain squeal is worth the cost if it's just for convenience.
