2005 XC90 V8 brought to Panama from the U.S. Alternator needs to be replaced. So I ordered the alternator from the U.S. and it arrived. There's one decent Volvo shop in town. They now tell me that there is a special tool they need - and don't have - in order to replace the alternator and belt. I've done a bit of sleuthing on the internet but am stuck on following:
1 - does this sound like parts 9995760 and 9995761 - Counterhold and Socket for the Alternator Pulley? Or is it possible that the shop is referring to yet other special tools that they don't have?
2 - shop does do work on other XC90's, but almost all in Panama have the 2.5 liter engine - does it sound right that the V8 system uses a different tool?
3 - any easy workarounds -other models, e.g. BMW, that would use same tool/s or is this really unique to Volvo? I appreciate that mechanics do not want to hack away without the proper tools (and the shop is a pretty professional operation), but if I have to order the tools from the US it means the car is in the shop for another two weeks.
4 - any recommendations as to where to order these tools? Hope that's not a violation of the posting, but I've had good luck buying parts from Volvo of Dallas's site, and they don't have such tools.

those tools you have are not the sharpest ones in the shed.

t60 torx will fit in there as well as a 3/8 allen head also pop the cover off of the pulley and it will expose a bolt for a open end wrench
