Just wondering if anyone has seen/installed this option yet. I had to have the parts guy at my dealer dig around in his catologs, but he finally found it. This is not the rubber mat, but a heavy vinyl one that attaches high up the sides and up the back of the seats. Not sure how it attaches though.

I am getting tired of cleaning my dogs hair out of the back everytime we go away with her!

Hi Dan,

Do you mean something like this? This particular one is made by Cargoliner. I believe they come in 5 different color choices, but I'm not too sure if they have a fit for a newer XC.

Art-

Yes, the Volvo model is similar, except it does not go up and OVER the back seat, it basically stops where the carpeting ends and the hard plastic molding starts. It also has a flap that rolls out to cover the top of the bumper.

Its funny, I looked at this product about a year ago at another dealer, and was quoted about &#36220.00, which, at the time, I decided was too much. Yesterday they told me &#36100.00 plus tax, so I ordered it. We'll see. BTW, about how much is the one have pictured?

Dan,

This one retails for &#36129.00 U.S. and is also manufactured from heavy duty vinyl. I think the liner attaches itself to the cargo area via velcro tabs. Sounds like you got yourself a pretty good deal. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

As would be typical for me, I am expecting a phone call when it comes in, telling me I owe &#36200 instead of &#36100 and sorry I was misquoted..

Just an update - I picked up the protector yesterday, actual cost was &#36100.00 (US) and installed it today. Very nice fit out of the box, all instructions were thouroughly thought out. I had to drill eight small holes through the carpet backer on the sides of the cargo area, to mount strips of velcro with push button fasteners. When completed, the fasteners look original. In all it took about a half an hour to install, and hopefully will save hours of cleaning up dog hair.

Who manufacturers the &#36100 cargo protector? I got one from Cargoliner, but it wasn't sized for the 2001+ XC model. They let us use it temporarily until they got one made to fit the 2001+ XC. It worked great, so I can't wait to get the one that was made to fit. We just shipped it back and should be getting the new one anyday now.

Hi! Dan
When you get a chance, take a picture. I'd love to see what this liner looks like. I have two dogs of my own and hate cleaning up the hair on the back of the seats and the wheel wells.
Thanks Lance

Lance-

The protector works pretty well, except that my dog constantly wants to stick her head around the outside edge of the cargo area net. To do so, she stands on the wheel well and the way the protector fits, she pulls the velcro apart sometimes. It still saves me a lot of cleaning on Sunday nights when we get home. I'll try to get a picture for you this week.

Know the problem of the head around the corner. We have the same cargo net. I was noticing the metal cage seems to go out to the sides farther. I wonder what the cost of one of those would be and if it would work any better.
then the next problem, keeping the dogs nose off the windows.....uhg.

Just wondering if there are any updates to the cargo liner products out there. I'm trying to find out how much the volvo vinyl cargo area liner is. I've also checked out the cargoliner brand mentioned in a previous post. I'm leaning toward the cargoliner, but was curious if there are any more people that have comments on these or similiar options.

Thanks!

This afternoon I got the fall/winter 2002-2003 IPD catalog. They offer cargo area liners (grey/tan) for $99.95 , but removal of the side-netting is recommended for best fitting.

Gentlemen,

At one point LL Bean was selling cargoliners, which could be ordered custom fitted for almost any SUV vans or wagon. I'll have a look at their site to see if they still offer it.

Here's the link to the Cargoliner (http://www.cargoliner.com/) site. Unlike the Volvo liner, this one seems to go all the way up the backs of the seats.

I ordered a beige Cargoliner after I learned the Volvo liner was about $100 US more and didn't look like it offered as much coverage. I'll post comments after I get it installed and such.

Just remember, when you install the liner, it becomes harder to use that little grocery bag tray in the way back. My wife took the liner out all together 'cause she likes using that feature sooo much.

I got a really nice rubber one that covered the whole bottom of the rear area. It is taking up space in my basement as I type!

Just to add to the comments above, the upholstered cargo liner that's in the car already is also reversible revealing a rubber coated side that's convenient for those quick trips to the garden center, Home Depot, etc...It doesn't sport the 2" lip like the rigid liners have to cover messy spills, but it's still handy nonetheless. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Art, I'm with you to a point on the rubber mat being good for some things, but I'll let you know that my biggest gripe with it on my 2002 is that it doesn't fit perfectly. On the 2002the sides are different towards the hatch (behind the wheel wells) and it looks really sloppy when reversed.

Just my two cents worth, and hope that someone comes out with a good compromise.

I see your point Michael. As a quick and temporary solution, I still see some merit in it's versatility even though fitment/looks is a big issue. That being said, I have one of the custom fit rigid liners and greatly appreciate how it protects the upholstery underneath. Since installing a full size spare, my grocery bag holder/cargo storage tray is rendered useless. Something I guess that I've learned to live without. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

BTW, if anyone is interested in the flexible Volvo liner as shown in Armin's photo above, it's shown listed on the U.S. Volvo site at $106.

This is a good source of info, but I’m still a bit confused. Maybe it’s because I’ve not seen one of these liners up close yet. I’m looking for something that will go in the back and cover the entire cargo area. I’d prefer it to go up the sides at least a few inches as well as cover the back of the back seats when they are folded down. Ideally it would be easily removable and maybe even have something that could fold out over the rear bumper if needed for loading and such. On my old car, I just used a piece of outdoor carpeting. This solution worked fairly well, but it didn’t fit very well and was not at all water proof. It was nice, though, to remove it and lay it on the driveway and just take the vacuum cleaner to it.

I’d use a cargo matt all the time for everything from muddy mountain bikes to wet sailing equipment to Ice boating paraphernalia. I also plan to get a dog in February, so it’ll be even more important then.

A few weeks back, someone asked for pictures of that flip up metal cargo cage. I don’t think any pictures were posted, but does anyone have any close up pics of any of these liners? I know that there are some pics posted above, but they don’t give me a good idea if they’d be worth the price. The close ups that were posted of the hand brake on another topic were great. Anybody got a digital camera and a cargo liner that they’d like to post?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Keith

Hi Keith,

Just to clarify all of the confusion. I have one of the rigid type trays that slide in and covers only the area of space when the back seats are in their upright positions. I prefer to call them trays because of the raised lip that encircles the entire liner. Great for keeping those messy spills in place. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It sounds like your more in the market for one of the flexible vinyl liners such as the O.E.M. one above or the Cargoliner model. They extend up the side panels and back seats and are more than likely fastened in place with velcro. By the looks of the photo of the Volvo liner, it even appears to extend over the rear bumper.

In terms of overall strength and durability, I'd have to go with the rigid liners. However, the flexible models offer more versatility in their ability to cover all areas of the cargo hold for better protection. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I've been happy with the fit and finish and how nicel it works with the rear seats (2nd row) up or down.

I also have the rigid vinyl/plastic cargo tray for the back that I actually lay right on top of the Cargoliner. Between those two cargo area protectors, my 3 retrievers and their hair should be contained.

Hi Greg,

Looks really good!!!!!

One question, does it work when you fold the rear seats down completely therefore making the loading space completely flat?

cheers
Neil

luverofpeanuts

yup....it works when you fold the rear seats flat. There is a enough material to stretch to the fully flat position. That was a question I asked the Cargoliner people before I ordered. The assured me it would, and they were right. My other important question was to make sure that I can fold down the rear seat sections individually, which works also.

Does any know of a liner that unfolds a little to cover the rear bumper?

My 02 V.O.R. did not come with the double-sided carpet/rubber mat that was standard in the other Australian 02 models so I'm looking for something to protect the cargo bay floor from a folding wheelchair that I'm constantly putting in and taking out.

Unfortunately, despite being careful, the area that is taking the most damage is the painted lip between the cargo bay floor and the bumper, plus the bumper itself.

What I need is something that folds out and drops over the bumper. I was thinking of going to the local saddlery and getting a simple canvas liner made up to my specs.

Considering that I never use them, I've actually removed the top tether anchors in my car. I found the protrusions would constantly interfere with the loading of cargo. There was a discussion about this in an earlier thread. (http://xc70.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=157;hl=anchors)

Sure would be nice if Volvo could somehow design these so that they could sit recessed in the backs of the seats. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

[luverofpeanuts] No not precisely - that's just the bumper cover. Notice that the plastic handle for the floor panel is visible (and therefore unprotected).

I want a liner that covers the bumper as well, and interestingly enough that link that you posted shows a vinyl version of exactly that! So thanks for the link - the vinyl load liner is not listed in my Australian accessories brochure that the dealer gave me when I bought the car, so I'll go and see if they now stock it.

I ordered a Cargoliner in Grey and thought I'd get the same thing as was so nicely depicted in Loverofpeanuts' previous post. Unfortunately the one I got did not cover the top of the back seats. It just goes an inch or so past the carpet up the back of the seat and stops. I specifically chose the Cargoliner over the cheaper Volvo OEM because of this. I bought the Cargoliner # 21183, specifically for the XC. I don't know what went wrong, but I just sent Cargoliner an email asking that exact question. Has anyone else recently bought one of these to find out it doesn't go over the back seats?

Thanks
Keith

What type of cargo lliner comes with $100.00 package of rubber floor mats and nylon cargo side holders? in the FDC pick-up? I'm confused by terms cargo line and cargo tray. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

mrb,

The cargoliners referred to in the previous posts are made from a heavy duty vinyl material that protects the entire cargo area including the side panels, tops and backs of the rear seats. The cargo trays, on the other hand, are made of a more rigid vinyl and protect only the floor area. They easily slide in and out and have a raised lip or edge to help keep spills in check. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There are aftermarket and O.E.M. versions of both the cargo liners and trays.

Could it be the reversible textile/rubber cargo liner that you're referring to in the FDC package? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
