Hi guys,

Hope you can help.

Got a 98 V70XC, its a Right Hand Drive, and i've got a noise/vibration coming from the drivers side (right hand side if I was sitting in the car).

Its a vibrating through the accelerator pedal I feel, and its also accompanied by a vibrating noise.

I get it when I go about 58mph, and sometimes about 40mph also. Its not engine speed related, so its something to do with the cars speed.

Any ideas?
Things i've thought of are:

Inner CV joint,
Wheel Bearing,

Tyres are ok, and have been balanced.

Wonder if anyone can let me know if they've had similar and what solution was?

Thanks :)

Just to further clarify, the vibration can only be felt through the pedal - nowhere else, and the noise does sound like the wheel bearing might be gone... obvious solution?

Front (right side of car) engine mount. (lower)
If it has failed completely the engine is now resting on the subframe and can cause some serious vibrations

Cheers for that JRL!

Coincidentally i've identified a dodgy engine mount in that exact place you've mentioned! I thought these were unrelated but sounds like you've cracked it.
(I get a hefty vibration when the car is at 1,200rpm coming from this area!)

It's part "B" on this diagram that I suspect has gone... but I suppose it could also be "E".

Any idea if I can access it by taking the wheel arch off, or should I just climb underneath the car?

You better not hope it's E, those are the 4 subframe bushings and a PIA to do yourself.
(Engine has to be held up and the subframe slightly dropped, (I'll let you know, I'm going to be replacing all of mine soon).
Not really necessary but I want this car to be PERFECT.

Anyhow...
Yes, jack the car up on the right side, remove the wheel.
Remove or roll back the inner fender liner.
If you have a 2nd jack to hold up/support the engine while you R&R the mount, this will make the job 1000% easier.
Especially if it's collapsed, you really have to as you have no choice.
Almost all of these go bad after 80-100K miles, some worse than others.

That Venetian red 2000 I just sold a couple of weeks ago had a totally collapsed mount and the vibration was unreal!
New mount, totally quiet again

You can sort of see this. The engine will actually be tilting towards the right side (of the car)

I'll jack the car up and see if its B or E before I tear away the wheel arch lining (again! Replaced both my front wings not so long ago!)
I agree a second jack would be far easier! Got one standing by, just need a dry weekend now!
