My wifes 2001 xc started making a rumble sound from the engine, (valve lash?). I checked the codes and came up with p0014. Seems this has to do with the timing. So I took off the black plastic cover over the timing belt to see if I could see anything wrong. Well there was a part caught between the cover and the timing belt. It seems to be made of a soft metal and surrounded on the outer circumference by a rubber material. The shape is like a washer with about a 1.5" diameter. See the picture. Could anyone identify the part and what me be going on? The car seems to be surging, although the rpm seems steady.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
