Well, as of Saturday, we will officially have had our XC for three years. It's been a 90% love 10% hate relationship. I think it's time for a full 8 hour inside & out detail in celebration. I'm going to shampoo the carpets, treat & clean all the plastic, leather & vinyl, q tip the cracks and give the exterior a solid 3 coat wax job.

congrats LWW! I'm not even half way there http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
What do you use for your wax treatment. Mine is up for a (this time better than Turtle Wax) treatment as well. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif

How about some before and after shots? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Since I have never posted a pic of my car here, maybe now is the time to do so. The extent of my digital photography is that our handicam has a still function and it takes a year to upload pics, so we don't use it that often.
Since it is filthy right now and hasn't been washed in three weeks, I think I will do a before & after shot. - good idea, Pico.
For wax I'll probably use some Production pink cutter, Production carnuba royale purple cleaner & filler wax, followed by Autoglyme Resin as a sealant. I'm out of tire dressing, so that will have to wait.

Belated wishes LWW! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

We're still 4 months away from our three year anniversary. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Haven't heard of Production products before. Can they be acquired easily? What are you using for tire dressing? Always looking out for good detailing tips.

...and yes, Pico's right, B & A pics of your ride would be nice! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

good stuff! I'm a few months behind you... March 27, 2004 will be our third birthday.

And glad that you've been so positive you've been through what I understand to be a tough car relationship. In the end the XC is an awesome vehicle even with the hiccups encounted. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Production is a company that makes detailing products for professionals. I've never seen their stuff on store shelves. I only use a few of their products. I bought a few items I loved in bulk years ago, but once it runs out in the not to distant future I'll be switching to stuff I can find easilly.

I rarely repeat buy the same tire product. I don't like the wet shiny look and it tends to make a mess on the car if it hasn't been full absorbed/dried. The last stuff I used was spray/aerosol based from Cosco. It was auful. What the wind didn't drop all over the car, tire rotation at speed did. As long as the tires have been scrubbed clean & look black, I'm usually happy. My next batch of dressing will probably be something from autoglyme or from griots catalog.

I'm currently using Vinylex on the tires but like LLW, if they're clean and uniformly black, I think they look pretty good. The sidewalls of the Scorpians are pretty complicated (lettering, ridges, tread blocks) and difficult to get enough Vinylex on to look good, but not so much that it slings off. The Goodyear Forteras on my truck are even worse.

I have had great results cleaning the tires with Griot's Rubber Cleaner and an Oxo tire brush. The tires are thoroughly clean and completely black (no brown), just missing the finish from dressing.

I will probably start dressing the tires only a few times a year when I clay and wax the paint.

BTW, we just celebrated one year with the XC and my wife was wondering out loud why we waited so long to buy one (she made the XC decision in 2000 but grad school / moving got in the way). http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

got the car cleaned up, 3 coats of wax even used an oribtal buffer, treated the leather, cleaned all the jams, plastic & vinyl vacuumed, but no time for a shampoo...kids were sick and I was pushing my luck just waxing the car. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif During the process I realized that some goofball who didn't know where the corners of his/her car were scraped our the corner of our bumper probably trying to exit a parking space.

Great result LWW. You surely raised the bar here. Next month I'll try to get a similar result on my XC. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
