Hello,
Does anyone know how to get rid of the darn check engine light without taking it to the dealer?
TIA

Yes, but you need to get yourself a decent OBDII code reader for about $100.
The reader will not only give you the codes, but it will turn the light off.
REMEMBER, by turning the light off you have not fix anything:(

haha.
Dude, this question is asked at least once a week.
Only the dealer can do it or a decent Volvo Indy mechanic with the VIDA tool.
Or you buy the tool yourself for a considerable amount of coin. [thumbup]

Darrn :(
I thought there was easier ways to do it, i.e unplugging the battery for 20 mins, but ohh well, maybe itll burn out sooner or later ;)
...and your code is what?
You turn it off and not fix it, it will come right back!

Before I take my cars in (if there is a CEL) I check the code, then act stupid with my mechanic. (describing any symptoms, but not devulging I know the codes) If he tells me I need a new Cat and the CEL said it was a evap emissions problem, I know he's trying to pull one over on me.
Have not had to call him on anything, but it's good to know more than they think you know.
