In another thread trzesnk mentioned that with a factory modification the XC can be registered as a truck in Poland, which has significant tax advantages.

I thought that you might like to know the curious situation that exists in Australia.

Here true 4WD vehicles are regarded as being for use in primary production i.e. farming, forestry, mining etc. So they are allowed to be sold to the public with a much lower tax rate than other vehicles. The curious thing is that you don't have to be using it for business to buy one.

The vehicle just has to meet the technical requirements in order to qualify for the reduced tax rate. The V70XC qualifies, as do vehicles like the Subaru Liberty/Legacy/Outback etc.

The result is that the V70XC in standard form has a recommended retail price that is AU$1000 (US$500) cheaper than the conventional V70.

Needless to say Volvo Australia sells a lot more V70XC than V70.  And it doesn't bother with the V70AWD.
