Took our 2007 XC70 to the dealer because it was making a clicking sound comming from the front of the car. After only 34,500 miles both front axle shafts need to be replaced at a cost of $1800.00, luckly I still have 35 days left on the warranty, so it wont cost me a penny. However, I'm very concern. Is this something common with these cars, how reliable are the xc70's? I'm planning on keeping it for another 10 years, but now I'm not so sure. I had a 2000 S70 and put 110,000 miles and never a problem. Are the XC70's less reliable? What else should I expect to go wrong with the car.

those are stealership prices dude:o

driveshaft axles usually last about 75K miles, but may differ depending on road conditions and driving behavior ie, aggressive driving.

Driveshafts usually go for $125 new each, add a couple of hrs labor and the whole job can be done for less than $500.

Only the cheap Chinese knockoffs can be had for that price, Volvo replacement axles are $461 MSRP.

75 thousands miles for front axles !! My buddy at work has a 2000 acura TL with 185,000 miles and has originals. My 2000 s70 had 110,000 with no problems. Are the XC70's less reliable for the front axles?

FYI, I replaced my original front axles at 275,000km with IPD ones (under $300 for both sides IIRC)

Does the axles click turning both left and right? or is it only one direction?

It clicks on both sides and even when I do not turn.
