Apparently from 2011 the V70 is history in N.America, to be replaced by a FWD version of the XC70. The FWD XC70 will be offered with the 3.2L I6 saving you a bomber $6K over the AWD version with the T6 engine. The will be no R-Design full size wagon in 2011. Laaaaame. Was this in the lineup all along or is this a decision from the Chinese management? What will this mean for the XC70 in the long run? Is this the begging of the end for this full size, AWD, luxury wagon?

begging of the end

Begging of the end??? You must mean beginning of the end, right?

I remember reading about this being a possibility before Geely purchased Volvo. I agree that it is lame, just blame the US drivers who have no taste in vehicles! The would rather have a Semi Truck than something practical like a sporty wagon!

We had this option in Europe on the 2010-models. For 2011 we get new and more economical engines. :)

Interesting, tell us more about those Euro engines! Is there more than just this

Nop, exactly that. Prices in Norway went down 10-15% (one combination (T6 auto, i think) almost 20%) for most models with these engines.

Yes - I'd have to agree. Happens all the time.

I probably would have bought a Honda Accord wagon in '04 rather than the XC70 if Honda hadn't stopped importing them to the US a few years before. I mentioned it to some Honda regional sales mgr at the the Pittsburgh auto show and he told me to 'buy a minivan like everybody else'.

So I got the Volvo, and then began thinking that its replacement someday might be an Audi Alllroad. And then, you guessed it - they stopped importing them to the US. This time I asked a local Audi saleman and he told me 'buy an SUV like everybody else'.

I'm seeing a pattern here.

But I think it's understandable. I like the V70, but I probably see 5 XC70's for every V70, and I don't see all that many XC70's in my neck of the woods. If Volvo is selling 60,000 cars a year in the US, I'd guess that less that 5000 of those are V70's, and that's not many.
