Shock Absorber

My 2005 xc90 developed a creaking/knocking noise in the front left shock area- just when breaking/ stopping. After examination the garage that sold it has said that it is the shock mount and that the item wont be covered as its a 'wear and tear ' item.
Has any one any views on this or experiences this problem.
