Do these two gear boxes take the same oil? Vadis shows two different part numbers.
Thanks

I take that as a yes. I wonder though about the two part numbers. They say .7 lt for the final drive and 750ml for the bevel gear. If the part # described the same oil in the same 1lt container, you'd think the numbers would be the same.

The answer is no, I believe they're different

They are different in Volvo dictionary and in viscosity (a little bit), but based on my research and in reality you can use what i said for both since it also has anti slip additive for final drive.

But the question is, have you checked the level? is it low and you need to top up? is the fluid dirty and you plan to flush?

As I type this I'm reading the Volvo product spec on the bevel gear lube bottle which states 75w-90 GL-5 and as I recall the rear diff fluid bottle states GL-5. So I just got enough Mobil 1 75w-90 GL-5 to do both. Works fine with no issues and probably the same stuff anyway.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks,
At 230k on my '01 I'm going to change both regardless of what the oil looks like because I know they've never been changed. (Did the tranny for the first time last month and it made a huge difference).
So I'll go with the 75-90 GL-5 for both.
