This afternoon PJ810 and I had a short drive to the village of Wee Jasper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wee_Jasper,_New_South_Wales). Starting from Canberra, we took Uriarra Road and Mountain Creek Road to Wee Jasper. The highlight of the return journey was Doctor's Flat Road. This was through the northern end of a range known as the Brindabellas.

Dramatis personae:

This snap was at the pub at Wee Jasper. PJ810 on the left, myzomela on the right. On the far right is son-of-myzomela, driving a lego car in the dust...
PJ810 shared the driving with his friend who I believe has a really nice 850.

PJ810 on the bridge coming out of Wee Jasper. I think he'll post one looking back at me on the bridge later.

First photo stop on Doctor's Flat Road. Son-of-myzomela's theory is that one day a doctor was driving on the road and got a flat tyre. I've heard of sillier origins for place names.

Action shot by son-of-myzomela. You get a hint of how dusty the road is.

A bit further along the road.
In today's dry conditions, AWD wasn't really necessary, but the ground clearance was. There was one significant creek crossing, and a fair bit of erosion on hills.

Last photo stop before the main descent back to Canberra.

PJ810 and I speculated about another trip in the Brindabellas one day. Next time we'll make sure we arrange for a full day's drive, and do some exploring. Any more XCers interested?

It was a fantastic (short) drive that has left me longing for more! I would be very keen to see a larger group of XCs in the Brindabellas at some stage.

Anyway, here are some photos:
