Just ordered my '04 XC70 2.5T and thought I would give you some updates on what is new on the 04s.

Volvo will start building 04 models in February. (I have gotten preliminary delivery dates from mid march to june...)

Aluminum Trim Rings around instruments are standard (Saw some posts on people adding them after delivery...)

Spokes are somewhat modified. (Salesperson said minor changes)

ECC Air Quality system is standard. (Not sure about this one - but my order confirmation says I will get one even though I will not pay for it)

Some buttons changed inside car. (Don't know anything else of this)

Electrical chair and mirrors are linked to remote control. (No more fuzz when your wifes borrows your car. Just use Your remote and the car will restore chair and mirrors to Your settings...)

March is soon....June is far away.....

This is not new. My 01 xc has this feature.
Please post the other changes as you hear about them.

Why is 2003 such a short model year?

It might be due to Volvo raising the prices starting 1st of February. The XC70 is only up 2-3 percent but rumours say the XC90 will be 5 percent.

Anyone knows when the '03 model (Haldex) was introduced?

Just a little more info on the 04 I received from the dealer. Present plans at the facotry call for 04 production begining sometime in the last three days of March or the first week of April.

I was also told that it is likely that except for "special MY04 requests on OSD's (slightly higher price as well), that the 04's will be held back from delivery to North America until the 03's are "considerably" sold down. Since there was a late distribution and a slow second allocation, there are plenty left in the production and sales queue.

The changes are VERY minor and are being made to further standardize the model/XC line- ie the adding of the air quality filter into all models (Edit: Feb 3- this is STILL optional). Trim parts are being added, but the dealer and OSD factory rep could not confirm which were going to make it into the production cycle. (Edit Feb 3: Nothing yet confirmed) Most are "going to be held back to 2005-2006," except for parts that "are already in the factory queue for the XC90 that work on the XC70 model as well.

Volvo is said also to be considering delay of the run for 04 a few weeks to give the second allocation time to make it fully to market. The 04's for the XC90 are on schedule though since most have been bought down already and they have a need to quickly catch up on pre-orders.

I just bought a 2003 XC70 and was given the opportunity to buy a 2004 in stead here in The Netherlands

For a far as I know the 2004 model is 750 euro more expensive and has EBA (electronic brake assist) and DSTC as a standard feature. I verrified if the 2004 model had Air Quality System as a standard feature, but this is not the case. At least not in Holland. The 2004 is expected to be released in April. The 2003 model wil no longer be made from now on.

Therefore a made a nice deal and bought a showroom model which will be delivered February 14th. My girlfriend and I will have a beautiful Valentine's Day! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There were 9 colors the choose from (2004 and 2003 are the same). Only two types of green: Color# 447 Scarb Green Pearl and color# 449 Mistral Green metallic.

My 2003 model is Ash Gold Pearl metallic because I think it's the best color for a Cross Country! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

In the USA from my Volovo published XC70 MY2003 catalog (MY03 D) it identifies Color #449 as "Platinum Green metallic". It does not describe the Color #447 at all.

Ash Gold is a fine color -- good choice. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

That is really crappy, to have a model year of only a couple of months! When the 2004 comes out, you take a BB drop in valuation! You also wonder what new features have I missed out on. What is going on?-Dick

Uh huh... but what about those people that bought '02 in Nov/Dec? Remember though, the 04's won't be here for quite awhile. The production year is not really that short, doesn't production usually start in late April/early May anyway? It just happens to be late sept/early oct when they get here. Seems it's really about 5/6 weeks shorter

I think MY03 started around 37th week of 2002, so it does seem like a short model year.
