99 v70xc - my blower motor just barely runs, or doesn't run at all. How do I determine if it's a bad motor, or a faulty control (resistor, etc)?

And, is there a link to the replacement procedure?

Thanks!

Search the forums here for more info on what your symptoms mean. There are about a dozen other discussions that cover this.

Reports on matthewsvolvosite.com show it will take about b/w 30-60 mins to replace the blower motor. Here's a photo guide to do it. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/2009/03/14/climate-unit-blower-replacement/

Check this video out for blower motor replacement in 98-2000 70 series models. Looks easy enough.

They also have a link to replace the ECC itself if that is the culprit:

Resister/power unit appears to be left of the blower motor. Will be tackling some of this myself this week once the parts arrive. Will be replacing resister/power unit and blower motor per the recommendations on the boards here. If that fails, then will probably have to replace the ECC too.

UPDATE: Just installed the blower motor myself. The video above is great. Took about 45 mins as I had a hard time getting some of the cables disconnected (didn't want to break them) and had to create a workaround for getting out the two right screws that hold the motor in. Be sure to have a short socket driver or bendable screwdriver for the two screws on the right side. Be sure when you reattach the trim panel and the glove box that you hand tighten (don't use a drill or power screwdriver unless you have good control of the torque and speed). The securing tabs are plastic and break easily (I learned from experience). Overall, an easy repair.

Also, for a great deal on a used OEM blower motor visit http://www.volvopartsearch.com/ and look under Recommended/Featured products. $60. Can't be beat. Shipping was ground, but quick for ground. Patrick the proprietor is very prompt to respond to questions.
