Just wondering if the Volvo XC70 AWD is suppossed to work in reverse? Got stuck in the sand not too long ago when I tried to cross a short section without lowering my tire pressure. Then when I tried to back out only the front wheels would turn/spin. The rears did nothing when trying to back out.
I even lowered my tire pressure to 15psi to get better traction on the sand but still when trying to back out the rear tires did not move. I did not want to go any further forward as it was slightly down hill so that is why I was trying to go in reverse.

Do I have a AWD transmission problem perhaps?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that it DOES work in reverse. We were at a Volvo demo in Whistler where they demonstrated it's capabilities in both forward and reverse modes. This would have been with 2005 models so the later version of the AWD mechanism was being shown.

I'm pretty sure that I've read on this board that it works in reverse.

IIRC, both Haldex and older VC AWD will always automatically engage in reverse.

Do you have the older VC? if so it takes up to 15~20 secs sometimes for the fluid to get hot and engage AWD, yes it's that slow..

I have the 2003 XC-70.

I have a 2003 XC and I can assure you that the AWD does work in reverse, otherwise I would still be stuck in the mud
