I have a 2003 XC 70 with 16K.  About 14 K the Service Needed message came across the trip computer at Random Times.  Hitting the end of the lever while the message displays makes it temp. go away.  Not permanent though.  I have had my oil changed at reg. intervals by Volvo.  Last time was at 14,500.  What is the deal?  Do I have to pay $150 bucks to Volvo to get this message to go away? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif

from swedespeed:
to reset service light:

1. Ensure that the trip meter is in position T-1, not T-2
2. Turn the key to Accessory position "I"
3. Press and hold the trip meter until it goes to zero
4. Whilst still holding the trip meter, turn the key to position "II"
5. When the original trip mileage returns, release the trip button
6. Turn key to position "0"
