Well, it cost $159. It was mostly labor. I did not ask it there was any updates to VIDAS. The car did feel a little smoother after the check up. Does anyone have a break down of exactly what they do for the 7,500 service? If you do I would be interested to know. The dealer just said there is a lot of inspections that have to be done at that service. IE brakes, suspension.

I'm about to take my '03 XC70 in for its 7500 service so can't comment. However, what I can give you as a comparison is what I paid for my 7500 mile service check for my Volvo S80 T6 in Jan 2001.

Labor was $79
Parts were $22.22
Oil was $10.50
Sales tax was $9.61

Total was $121.33

They perform a bunch of safety checks, refilled windshield washer liquid, topped of all fluids, checked brake pads, checked coolant quality, rotated tires, retorqued suspension, added Techron and a full safety inspection.

They provided me with a free loaner car as well.

you may see the price vary for a 7.5k based on geography as much as dealer indivdual pricing. in atlanta,ga avg for a 7.5k is about $150-$170 depending on the dealer/menu pricing and/or labor rate.

CLBIV,

Are you in Madison? Smart motors....the only Volvo dealer in town. If you are go to Foreign Car Specialists on Regent street right off Monroe. They are great and know what they are doing. And really all you need is an oil change until 30K. They will check the brakes for you like any good shop. The advantage is you can have synthetic oil done for $50-60 vs. the dealer using a non syn.

Hi All,

My total cost for the 7500 mile checkup was $140.00 and this was paying $8.12 per quart dealer cost on synthetic oil. Then again, our labor charge is $75.00 an hour here in the "Live Free or Die" state.

Very Respectfully,
Jim Miller

At 7500, I would have strongly considered starting a synthetic motor oil. Much better for the engine long term...

Just curious, but am I misinformed in thinking that with a new 2004' XC70 that the service visits are covered under the warranty?

Please forgive my ignorance.

They are.

7500
15000
22500
30000 (includes 30000 mile service)

At least that's what I was told and have read.

1. So just to reconfirm, those of us who own (or will own) an 04' XC70 will NOT have to pay for those service visits? That includes oil? Of course I will provide the oil once we hit 7500 to keep synthetic in the car.

2. Does everyone trust their dealers to install the customer-supplied synthetic oil in the customer's car? I can imagine some dealerships gratefully taking your expensive synthetic oil, then putting it in their own cars and pouring standard oil into your car. Am I the only one to mistrust mechanics? Are Volvo mechanics actually on the up-and-up?

I did all the automotive repairs on all the resident physician's cars during my residency training. Gosh, I must have saved them over $5000!!! The things the garages would try to do is just down right scary, that people can try to take such advantage of other people. Such a shame...

1. Yes. From what I heard synthetic is extra. But you just pay for the oil then not the service.

2. I am hoping for a decent experience will find out early next year when I hit 7500 miles. I owed 2 vws before and when I got it service I got to know the service manager and team. They would even use afternmarket parts I brought in and just charge the labor to install. They would take me back, show me things that where bad and parts they replaced. The always charged me less and discounted as much as possible. I hope to make the same relations with the volvo dealer.

Hi,
We just picked up our '04 xc70 and the first four services (7500, 15k, 22.5k and 30k) are all covered as part of the cost of the new car. One thing they do in addition to change oil/filter, check fluids is to rotate tires.
Here is a long link to what they cover at all of the services for the '04 models. You will probably have to copy/paste the entire link.
