My '99 xc has water spots and the wax I used will not remove. Anyone have suggestions? It's black in color and really shows.
Thanks, gwest

I find that detailing clay is an effective way of removing surface contaminants including water spots. Just remember that you will need to reapply the wax after claying.

In addition to clay, you can also use a mild compound/cleaner from 3M such as either Perfect-it and/or Imperial Hand Glaze.

Another cheap fix is to use vinegar for water stains, bird poop stains, etc.

Clay bars work well for water marks.

Clay then wax, wax wax and more wax.

I haven't got any good photos yet of my 2001 V-XC-70 that is black but here is an example of my MB E430 after clay and waxing. It's Royal Indigo (purple/blue/black) and shows dirt like blacks does.

As a resource on this type of thing, give this link a shot (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php). It contains more than you would ever want to know about detailing and how to correct various problems like waterspots. Frankly, this site drives me crazy as some of the pictures of the results are absolutely amazing.

Cheers,
