I thought i read a post where someone put a full size spare back there, but had to change out the little bin under the cargo area for one that was shallower all the way across.

It may have been with different size tires though. :(

I've had no issues fitting OE wheel/tire combos of 215/65/16 (OD 27"), 215/60/17 (OD 27.2") and also 225/55/17 (OD 26.8"). NOTE: The foam pads underneath the donut will have to be removed in order for the full spare to fit.

You would also lose use of the storage tray but having a full size spare is certainly a favorable trade off. That being said, you can always purchase a shallower version of the tray from the dealer.

I have a 215/65-16 on matching alloy with TPMS sensor as a spare. It fits tightly, but just a matter of dropping it into the space carefully. The 235 OD should be very similar, so the only difference is overall height being slightly more. There is enough space above the 215 tire before hitting the cargo floor that a 235 would not be a problem. In other markets like Australia, a full size spare was standard, and they got a different organizer tray that is smaller and fits in the space left beside the full spare. The big tray in US cars does not fit with a full tire, so my tray is in the barn waiting to go back in when i get rid of the '07 and keep good spare. Our new '09 XC70 does not appear to be able to carry a full size spare (I haven't proven that yet), and the Aussies even get a temp spare for use in the oputback ;((
