Is there an easy way to remove the cupholders?

I'm a Starbuck's addict and have a fair bit of coffee grime around the edge where the cupholder piece sits into the center console. I'm sure it's possible, but not too sure if I want to pull apart the entire console to get it out.. is there an easy way? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about, but note this is not my car... mine's a 2001 graphite interior covered in coffee. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Great question, I was thinking the same thing.  GM and Ford have removeable rubber inserts in those spots - very easy for cleaning.

It looks tough to remove the cupholder without disassembling center console

Great Idea! I'm a Ham Radio operator & that space would be
PERFECT to mount a radio, provided the cupholders can be
removed & replaced easily. I look forward to reading
the replies Good Luck!!

Hi!

I replaced the ash tray by this cup holder. You need to remove the entire console because the cup holders mounted with some screws from beneath. No chance from the top.

Pure 1 hour work to do this.

If anyone wants my (unused) ash tray for his XC, make me an offer :-))

There are two pieces in your pictures, the actual cupholders themselves and the rectangular surrounding piece. Which is it you want to remove? In my vehicle the cupholders simply lift out for cleaning/substitution, revealing a rectangular storage bin with a couple of screws(?) at the bottom.

We figured it out!

We'll, Lance (mox575) did anyways, then sent me pics on how to remove the part. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Lance said his came out pretty easily by lightly applying inward pressure around each corner, but mine were a little stubborn.

I found a very thin butter knife carefully slid into the edges and pressed down to the bottom of the tray helped to dislodge mine. Take a look at my mess at the bottom of this post. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Here are some pics of Lance's success:

And here's where I slipped the butter knife in on mine. Again, be super careful not to scratch the plastic or you'll negate the benefit your efforts! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

In taking a look at the following pic, now you know why I've been wanting to clean this puppy!

Thanks Lance!

Hi!

I thought you want to remove the frame of the cup holder, because your arrow pointed to this point :-))

Sure you can remove the cup holders without dismounting the console.
