Hi All, enjoing the forum plenty of information, I'm about to change the oil in my xc70 2.5T 06 ,I have always used Castrol GTX in my other cars, but because the XC is turbo I'm not sure what viscosity rate/grade?
Already got the filter cartridge and tommrrow I will pick up the filter-casing tool #999 5679 from volvo at Liverpool.

Castrol Magnatec is 10w30.
Used at my last service & top up with that in my '03.

Both the dealer and the independent volvo shop in my neck of the woods have used 5w30 in my '02 XC. However, I'm in Canada where temperatures tend to be on the cool side.

I use Castrol Syntec 0W30 in my 02 XC70. The 0W30 is made in Germany, and is the very best synthetic oil that Castrol makes. It can be found at Pepboys, and some Autozones. My XC loves it, and runs badly with any other oil in comparison.

I strongly recommend it.

Runs badly how?

Yeah, really though!!! Exactly HOW does an engine run badly with different grade of oil????

Throttle response and turbo spool-up is greatly affected by other oils, namely Amsoil SSO 0W30 and Lucas 5W20 so far.

I switched back to Syntec 0W30 and the XC70 is again running beautifully with a very responsive throttle and lively turbo.

Yeah, really though!!!

What exactly does this expression mean?

"Yeah, really though!!!"

Sounds like when people say "I know, right!?".

What does it mean?

Thanks for the input guys, yesterday I rang Castrol and they recommended that I use
Castrol Edge-Sport 0w 40. I done the oil and filter change today and all went well.
I only had this XC70 for four weeks now, two weekends ago we drove to the south coast Jarvis Bay the drive was very good in all aspects and coming back to Sydney the XC went great over MT OUSLEY very steep the XC handled it without any problems, plenty of power.
We clocked 357.7 kms in total and we refilled and it took 29.19 Litres so to my calculation the fuel consumption: 357.7/29.19 = 12.25km per Litre
(100km/12.25L = 8.16L per 100kms)
This is the way I do the calculations , I have been doing this calculations for my other car Nissan X-Trail 5speed manual and on the HWY it returns 8.5-9.0 per 100km
I would be interested to see how the XC70 will go after the oil change?
Cheers.

After I done the service on my XC70 I tried to reset the service message and I also got code 045 so I used the XC SRI (Service Reminder Indicator) Reset Procedures and it done the job.
Cheers.
