Daniel,

If that's your ash gold XC in the pic - I like the wheels that you currently have on it! Of the other two sets, I would prefer the BBS I think.

I think both wheels looks good!!
But I must admit that the AT's multi-piece with a polish lip design looks better if you compare the 2 wheels. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Plus, I think with the 18x8 AT's, the extra 0.5inch in width should bring the wheels out flush with the fenders. (Given the offsets are the same of course). http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif

If you do get the AT's, pls pls pls post a photo for me to drool over..

Cheers

I think the BBS's are better suited to the car than the AT's. The AT's are nice, but perhaps a bit more 'elegant' than the BBS's which are a little ' tougher'.

Here's a quick photoshop to show the difference:

Nice PS touch coastal http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

This is off topic but I'll mention it anyhow as the side view of the XC70 is on full display in these pics -- why can't the upper/lower rear cargo area window lines be inline with the rear passenger window lines. To my eye there's a discontinuity and always makes me think they 'added' the rear end onto a sedan upper body. If the lines were continuous I feel the whole side view would be greatly improved.

Barry's right--I've always been bothered by the side view of the XC70 but wasn't sure what it was til now. Also agree with "what service" in able to picture both versions of car without putting out the money & gambling.

Coastal,
Thx for the photos. Second thought, the BBS does look nicer on the XC. Stay with those wheels Daniel!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I beleive the cargo area's side window molding is like that in order to give the impression of a higher vehicle, ie more SUV like.

In fact, if you take a look at the regular V70, the molding is on the top edge, this time (my guess) in an effort to make the car look lower. Here's a pic of the R (same as the regular V70 in terms of molding style) showing the different window molding:

And here's one on the V70 2.4T- straight line as well- and a little better angle. Until you pointed it out, I thought the two models rear window sections were the same....

The V70 line is direct and bold v. subtle and faded on the XC. On the XC, the higher line is used as an offset against the higher line of the cladding, increasing the "raised" space effect of the cargo area. On the V70, it highlights the aerodynamic line of the Volvo V- carrying it the full length. Both have a powerful effect, and all that with two little pieces of plastic.

I still prefer the XC. The line-shift is definately intentional. Look how it also makes the shoulder appear wider. Its a very effective trick of the designer to induce perspective.

Will now look at side moldings with different attitude and more understanding.

Me too http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

-- but I still maintain I prefer the straight lines of the V70 vs. that of the XC70 rear side window treatment. I like for the wagon to look as if it wasn't an afterthought wrt its rear section.

I wonder if the mouldings can be tweaked to a V70 look-alike ?

It is a subtle difference and I THANK coastal for pointing out there was a difference and an explanation for it as the whole rear side window look has been bugging me for a while. Seeing first a V70 and then an XC70 on the road I just couldn't put my finger on what it was that looked so different wrt to the visual side lines.

Barry,

check out the photo below, the B, C pillars has been painted black, instead of the body color. I think it gives the wagon a more sporty look.
Maybe some one can do a photoshop impression of this on the XC.

ifnt, I tried photo shopping the XC with the side panels removed, and have to admit it doesn't look all that great... too many mismatched lines on the XC compared to the regular V70.

In order to make it look good, you'd at least have to start by changing the rear window edge piece to the V70 Model to help keep the lines in order. Must say, does look pretty good on the regular V70 though http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Coastal, Thx a bunch for the comp-generated photo!! You get an A for effort. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
True, the V70 looks better with the black trims than the XC.. On the XC it looks kinda like a Racoon with black eyes. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Thx again

Don't get the AT's. I made that mistake and sold them, would not balance. Now I have the OEM R wheels, nice and smooth to the bottom of the speedo.
