Clunking from under the middle

When ever I go over a small hard bump, I get a clunking underneath the centre of the car - like a large heavy steel ball bouncing on hard rubber floor. THUNK.THunk.thunk. What the heck is that? I looked underneath for something loose (exhaust/drive shaft) but can't seem to locate it. Nothing seems wrong, just a very disconcerting noise.

My thoughts exactly. I had the same thing on mine. Turned out to be a hanger rusted off.
