I'm planning to change ATF in my car, have read all the threads & posts here about transmission fluid change. I have a question still remaining:

There is no Volvo ATF available here, nor Mobil 3309. Only thing I was able to find is Toyota T-IV (as per instructions). In one shop - Toyota T-IV in a 4L metal container, and in another in plastil 1 L botles. Neither of them (on the container) indicate that they are JW3309 complaint. So the question is: is there only one type of Toyota T-IV so that I can safely use both of these? How many litres should I purchase?

Thank you

This is the Toyota T-IV jar I talked about - would it be safe to use?

I think Mobil 1 ATF is 3309 compliant. Everyone around here has it. ( Auto Zone, Advance, Wal mart,etc..) Check Mobils website.

Considering our Asin-Warner tranny is actually a division of Toyota (in other words made by Toyota), I would say... yes. :)

It's fine. Just follow the steps in the sticky above - you may need around 5 of those cans if you're doing a full flush.

He's not going to have an Auto Zone on the next block. :D

It is NOT
As for the Type 4 I've never seen that can/bottle
You need 12 to 16 quarts for a COMPLETE and proper flush, 5 bottles would be a drain and fill only

(I wish people wouldn't post these falsehoods)

JRL,
I think you are out of date on Mobil 1 ATF. Since it reformulated Mobil 1 ATF, Mobil has represented in writing that Mobil 1 ATF is JWS 3309 compliant.

I know about the NEW Mobil 1 ATF, (I'm not out of date) he may not have that there yet, it's pretty new.
It sounded to me like he was referring to the original Mobil 1 ATF

5 of the "tins" that he has shown is = to 20 litres, so if that is what he is buying he would only need 4-5. (they are 4L tins) I used toyota fluid for mine, no problemo.

When I saw Georgia, Right away I started thinking Hotlanta, Southern Belles, and BBQ!:p (Sorry). As for Mobil 1 being 3309, I KNOW it is because i had a bottle of it in my hand 3 days ago and read it on the side! So much for falsehoods!

Yes right, that's Georgia between Turkey and Russia. We don't have here Hotlanta and Southern Belles, along with genuine Volvo or Mobile 3309 ATFs, but BBQ here is awesome!

Back to the point: mechanic tells me filter is also to be changed together with ATF. Is it true? As I've learned from this community, there is NO filter which can be changed during regular ATF flush.

check out this site. Maybe you can get this oil.
http://www.fuchs-europe.de/home_en.html
Since last fall they carry an ATM oil which is good for Volvos.
Follow this link:
http://www.fuchs-europe.de/automatic-transmission-fluids.html

It is called: TITAN ATF 4400
recommended for: JWS 3309/TYPE T-IV
