Rattling Noise in the car

Hey Guys,

My XC is about 2 and a half months old now and I have done about 8000kms on the car.  AT the momment I am very impressed with the car except for some rattling noises that I hear coming from the tweaters on the right front passenger side.  this rattling only comes when driving normally on the road. I went to volvo to get it checked out and they said that the car was fine.  I was wondering if any of you fellow XCer's have experienced this problem.  If you have is there a fix for it. Thanks for your help.

I have a month old XC with 2000 miles (3200km) and I have no rattling problem from the tweeter.  However, I hear occasional rattle from the sunroof, ragardless of whether it's closed, tilted, or opened.  I've always driven Volvos since 1984 and I can safely say that interior rattling is a "normal" characteristic for any Volvos.  Hope they address this problem in the future.

Thanks for your reply MagicDragon. I have another Volvo too but I thought the rattling coming out of the tweeter was a little unusual but its probably me being too paranoid.  Thanks agian for your reply.

I have a XC also about 2.5 months old and with about 7000k. I have no rattles at all on normal roads (a couple appear on heavily bumpy roads/trails but I guess that is to be expected)

I have a year old xc and i started to have rattles about 3 months after getting it. The rattles come from the left side behind around the seat cargo area, man it drives me crazy. I have had to go over many "washboard" dirt roads, and now the whole car rattles. I have gotten used to it. But i think XC or at least mine are very noise car.

I had a similiar problem, but more of a squeak than a rattle eminating from the rear center armrest. A small application of white lithium grease on the locking mechanism made it go away.  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

My 2001XC(octomber) , the noise come at the 5th door(cargo area).Is a fibre material inside.I try to do something, but the noise is still here. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I too have has some noise from the right passanger side door when the stereo is on. I just reclose the door to get rid of it. I have the sub so my car rattles everywhere!

my closing of the door thery no longer works. booked in and as soon as i drive on the lot the rattling gos away.

That was 3 days ago...now its back and driving me nuts. I took the door panel off and tried to tighten the screws.

I found that the motor for the window is banging against the inside door frame. It has come to the point where its bothersome to drive.

We have a rattling sound in the rear compartment. With my young son's help we have determined that its the rear cargo blind. The rattles come from two sources.

I normally have the blind rolled up. However, if you let it roll up by itself the tail of the blind will stick out of the roll horizontally and rattles. Pulling it out a small amount after you roll it up will allow the tail to hang vertically and swing freely without noise.

The other rattle/sqeak seems to be the whole blind in its mountings. I haven't investigated what is causing it but I suspect it may simply be dirt.

The other noise that annoise http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif me is not being able put two CDs next to each other in the centre console compartment without them rattling against each other, thereby halving the capacity of the compartment.

I have experienced a rattle coming from the center section of the rear seat (40/20/40 configuration). When I install the optional cooler in the center position (requires removal of that center section) the rattle is gone. Reinstall the seat section and it is back. Oddly enough, it comes from the center section back where it latches to the right reat passenger seat. I think some lubrication of that mechanism is in order. No other rattles or squeaks after 10,000 miles on a 2002 XC. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
